There are a couple great teachers but sadly they are all moved into the higher grades. If you ask around the community you will see that the old reviews are not current. Between constant bullying in which the bullies are protected and the fact that many of the teachers ignore student and parent concerns, I'd rather pay for a private school than allow any other child t be back in this school.

My daughter attended grade 1 and I found the teachers there to be efficient, hard working, and adaptable. The three grade one teachers pooled their classes one hour each day to provide extra attention to students requiring more one-on-one interaction, those working at grade level, and those who excelled and needed more challenges. This school needs improvements but was trying hard to improve while my daughter attended.

I've had two children in this school for the past 5 years and only been pleased with three teachers. The principal is not approachable at all and is not kid friendly.

I have no complaints about this school so far. My daughter's reading and math skills have improved tremendously. The staff there is courteous and helpful.

The bullying in this school by many students is often. Just walk down the halls and see all the art on the walls concerning 'No Bullying.' This school is not where I want my children to be!

I went to East canyon as a child and back then it was great. I learned alot and had fun doing it. Now for my children, this school has plumited. There are very few special programs for children with leraning dissabilities (my son has ADD) and just as few for accelerated children (my daughter). I asked teachers to e-mail me with a weekly report and some did for the first few weeks and then is faded as the school year progressed. Two years ago a letter was sent out to the parents of all the students saying if you wished to transfer you children to the closest school in your district they would still bus the children home. This letter was sent out due to the fact that overall state anf federal test scores were extremely low and it was manditory for the school to offer an alternative for parents.

My first experience was at registation, when the office staff made me feel right at home. They were organized, friendly, helpful and overall made me feel welcome. Then there is the teachers also very friendly and helpful, and I have never walk into the school not seeing a smile on any teacher face. My son love it there and he is doing excellent in his reading. I love the different programs of reading that teaches at different level depending on each childs needs. I would recommend East Canyon or any of the Vallivue schools, they are GREAT !

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Idaho used the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading, math and language usage, and in grades 5, 7 and 10 in science. The scores from the spring administration are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The grade 10 ISAT is a high school graduation requirement. The ISAT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering the specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Idaho. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
