I love that the classes are so small and there is lots of one on one time.
My daughter is new to the school. She enjoys going to school. What more could you ask for?
I love the community environment, and that the school is open. This allows for everyone to welcome everyone. The students in the school are the number one priority.
We have the most awesome pricipal in the world. Nope, that's not right ... in the galaxy. Naw ... in the entire UNIVERSE!!!
Centennial Elementary is a school full of dedicated professionals that continuously go above and beyond their call to provide children not only with a quality education but an environment of love, compassion and security. I am honored to be part of such a staff and can't imagine working at any other school.
My son goes to this school. We have had nothing but positive feed back from him and the staff is great. We just started a science lab that the kids go to. PTSA is in the second year running and it is only looking up from here. We live in a lower income area and the staff and teachers at Centennial have a lot they deal with. Last year Dr. Harman (the principal) made sure all the kids had winter coats. Sometimes it is the smallest things that make the greatest difference.
School works well with parents and teachers are constantly improving their teaching skills and relationships with students. My children feel safe at Centennial.
As a teacher at this school that has seen many changes in staff and administration, I believe that we continue to be committed to student acheivement. Not only do we have to get our students to grow academically, but we also have to help them succeed in life situations. I have not had students of my own go through Centennial (I do not have children yet), but I would be fully confident and comfortable with sending my students to Centennial.
Centennial has a wonderful staff that really cares about each student. Their teachers want my kids to suceed, and do everything they can to help them. The secretary staff is so warm and friendly. What a great school! I couldn't be happier!
I have two kids that have both now attended Centennial from kindergarten through fifth grade. I have found the school and staff to be a wonderful experience. Although the staff has changed significantly during our time there, I have found the teachers to be very helpful and caring about my children. My older daughter still enjoys picking up her younger sister so she can visit the teachers she still knows. They are all very personable and genuinely care about my daughters. Although the curriculum is tough, my daughters have continued to learn quickly. Many of the topics covered in math I don t think I knew until at least junior high. PE is only once, sometimes twice a week. The lunch recess and 15 minute recess have been a wonderful break for my girls to get some extra activity in their day, as well as have a much needed afternoon break (I do believe the extra recess is taken out in some of the upper grades leaving only the lunch recess). Although the have been many changes in administration the current principal is wonderful. The kids are excited to see him, and he is as equally excited to see the kids. From our experience I would definitely give a positive endorsement for this school.
In the areas of academic curriculum, it can be good. However the curriculum introduces too many concepts without the student getting any one of them concretely. Extracurricular activities are good, however allows 3 recesses a day, which we feel is unnecessary. Why not cut school hours? Parent involvement isn't the problem, it's whether or not the staff is going to listen to the parent. If you have a child with a disability, watch out! There are no aides in the classrooms and the resource teacher is 'head' over the classroom teacher and administration. She gets intimidated if an aide or therapist is assisting 'her' student and feels it's unnecessary, regardless how much the student needs the assistance to be integrated. Parents input is not taken seriously!
