If you have a choice of this school or the Pocatello Community Charter school, I would recommend you look into BOTH schools before you make your choice. The Academy is more of an academic, rule oriented learning environment, while the PCCS is a hands on learning school. Both are good for different kinds of children. However, in my opinion, the Academy is too strict and promotes little tattle tales in their students. Furthermore, if your child is not keeping up with their class, he/she is placed in detention for small infractions, such as "not writing fast enough" or "drinking from the wrong drinking fountain." I cannot recommend this school.
My daughter immediately excelled from the first week of attending this school. She was bored in the traditional school system because there were so many kids that needed extra help that the teacher did not have time to focus on kids who were ready to move on. She transitioned in the middle of the school year and was challenged right off. I worried that it would be too hard and discourage her, but it motivated her. She had all the help she needed to catch up. I would highly recommend this school to any student who loves academic learning and wants to know their true potential.
I graduated from this school in June. It was a great school. It all about respect and kindness. Teachers always care about their students and always helping them to make good choices all the time. It's great with both academics and social. Everybody have friends and will never get left out. But...it's a little hard to get in....the waiting list is super long.... and that's guaranteed that the Academy at Roosevelt Center is the best school in Idaho.
Each child is encouraged to their very best. They work at 'their' best everyday. They are continually challenged and each child moves ahead if they're ready. They're never held back to wait for the rest of the class.
