The teachers work hard in this school, however the teacher/student ratio is closer to 30-1 not 16-1 as advertised. I moved to this district and received a shock when I found out there were 30 children in one classroom. How can we expect our teachers to handle this many kids. The entire blame goes to the people/politicians who do not know how to spend money wisely.
The teachers are dedicated and caring.
I love McCary Elementary School. The principal and the staff are all wonderful people that truly care about education our future! There are so many authentic learning opportunities and enrichment that is provided in all classrooms! Thank you everyone who are actively involved in your child's education. Teaching them manners and preparing them for school before they get there. If everyone does their part, we will continue to be successful!
I also disagree with the negative review posted on March 28, 2008. Both of my children have attended McCarty since Kindergarten (my youngest now in 5th grade) and it has been a wonderful experience. I feel the staff and administration go out of their way to create a safe and character driven environment for the students. No matter what school a child attends, there will be occasional behavior issues, but here they are handled well. It is important for children to be taught how to resolve conflict. My oldest (now in middle school) and youngest both love McCarty and have have learned so much here-both academically and socially. Our school is rich in diversity and community - would not change a thing!
I have a different opinion of the school as compared to the earlier one. We moved last year to this school in Aurora from another school in Naperville. My son had a big transition during his kindergarten year. He was not happy with his earlier school in Naperville, he is sensitive and some kids made fun of his last name. But, after moving to McCarty he looked very happy and content. I saw a smiling face every afternoon when I picked hime from school. He loved his kindergarten teacher Mrs Higgins she was really wonderful. I even like all the teachers who warmly greet the children and welcome them to school. I have had a really good experince with McCarty, they put the smile back on my son's face.
I have been sorely disappointed by the Facaulty's display of the School and District's Standards. They look very appealing in print, however, they haven't atcually been expressed, by the Facaulty, in the same manner. The Facaulty, in particular, has left me with great concern for the safety of the students. I have watched children walk out of the doors with no supervision. There was a Teacher, who my child has no subjects with, that just sent my child out the door to me without hesitation. This Teacher did not even know my child's name. I have also noticed a lot of, 'bullies,' attending this school. At first I wondered if there was an abundance of children with rough personal lives. Now I believe it has something to do with the way the Policies are enforced (or not so).
Good teachers, but lots of 'problem kids' that take teacher's time away from the other kids.
great school but little overcrowded. Teachers are nice,My child loves her school.
Teachers and adminstration seem to be friendly.
My son had to transfer to McCarty from Young Elementary due to boundary changes and the transfer process for all the children was handled sensitively and was well supported by communication between staff and parents. The Principal is very approachable and easy to talk to when you have concerns. The Project Arrow gifted program in McCarty is PHENOMENAL. My son finds it exciting and challenging and can't wait to go to school! The teachers really care about the students and advocate for them when they identify a children who is unchallenged or not keeping up and gets the right people in to address it. I can't say anything bad about it, except maybe the issue of air conditioning, but none of the elementary schools have AC at this time. They have whole building fans that help, though.
