My husband and I are very happy we transferred our children to OLGC. I am surprised a parent complained about the fundraising and volunteer requirement. Every Catholic School we looked at had a fundraising and volunteer requirement. OLGC is doing nothing different from other Catholic schools. Even public schools have fundraisers. I am a working mom and I understand that it is hard to volunteer but I make the time to help out my school because I want to set an example of Christian service for my children. I am also disappointed that a parent would complain about their child wearing a specific t-shirt to the school picnic which was done for safety reasons. The child was not required to buy a t-shirt but could wear any t-shirt in the color assigned to that grade level. A nominal fee was requested to cover all the picnic costs; however there were many FREE events at the school such as the ice cream socials, the Winter Olympics, movie nights, back to school donuts and coffee, Pi Day and Reading Day. OLGC has a very dedicated team of teachers and a dynamic principal who focus on academic excellence and religious education. We would not send our childrent anywhere else.

While I appreciate the efforts of the school, sadly I pulled my children out. OLGG has gotten greedy. It seems they are asking every month for more money for their "fundraising" and it is required! Now for next year they also are requiring parents to volunteer at least 4 times a year or pay $50 for each time they are not able to! For working parents this is very difficult. You have to mandatory sell calenders or donate $200 and donate $100 in another fundraiser, REQUIRED! Plus if you are too busy working hard to pay the crazy tuition for your child, plan on donating an extra $200 for the volunteering you cannot do. Now Father David is gone and I can only see this school going further downhill. If $3600 a year tuition doesnt hurt you, add on the extra $1000 you will be required to pay before the year is over in fundraising, fees, and supplies. They will nickle and dime you for every cent you have. This year they are even making kids pay for their own end of year picnic! Did I mention that the parents have to send in food to supply for this picnic? The fee is for "facepainting and colored hair spray"! Also, we had to purchase a t-shirt with a class color on it. Please!

A curriculum, as the state requires according current to standards - does not exist. Teachers completely lack camaraderie and often fight publicly... in of the children. Teachers are not up to date in terms of teaching practices and seem to be stuck in the 1970's or before. The school is in the hands of the pastor, and the buildings and grounds supervisor; none of them are trained educators and both lack college degrees of any consequence. The local public schools are a far better, and cheaper, option.

I love OLGC, it's a great school, my son is in Kinder and is already reading. I am very pleased with the new principal, I think he is doing an outstanding job in reorganizing the school. I would recommend OLGC to any parent interested in enrolling their children into a good catholic school. Religion is one of my son's favorite subjects, always comes home telling me the new things he learn about our Catholic Faith.

OLGC is the place to be. The warm and loving environment helps all the students succeed. Both of my children have done well academically and socially thanks to the hard working faculty. I will never regret the financial sacrafice it took to send my children to OLGC!

This is one great school. I am so grateful to have found this place for my kids. This is the warming and most loving school I have ever seen. The teachers are excellent and the new principal, Mr. Swanson, is a tremendous school leader!!! I highly recommend this place to any family in the Aurora, Montgomery and Oswego area.

This school is truly a very special place. My daughter is in the preschool but we have gotten to know many of the families with older children. The school is like one big family. The education is superior and the whole environment is nurturing, caring -- they live Catholic Christian values. We intend to send our children here through 8th grade!

OLOGC is a wonderful place to send your children. My son is in preschool and the dedication by both the staff and the parents, outshines what I have ever experienced in public school. Parents are asked to volunteer 20 hours a year to help support the on going traditions of OLOGC. This helps parents get involved with the education of there children and it shows in our children's faces. As they say,'you pay for what you get.' It's proof in the education that is provided by OLOGC. God bless.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
