I would like to say that when my daughter started first grade she was only able to read small words like cat and dog. When she started bring home a different book everyday that had to be read 3 times it was frustrating at first but now she can read at a level that a second grader can. Other schools in dist 129 do not have their children read daily. Thank you McCleery for making our students read everyday.
I have to admit, I was more frightened than my 1st grader, going into a new school. McCleery makes sure to pair age groups whether it be at lunch or recess. Bullying is NOT tolerated at the school. The principal, Cherie Esposito, is a top notch, hands on principal. I hope we never lose her. She is always open to positive changes and suggestions. Parent involement is strongly encouraged. The teachers are dedicated as we learned with my son's 1st grade teacher. McCleery made this mom happy that we choose a spirited learning environment for our son!
The staff and students at this school are the most accepting group of people I have ever encountered. The teachers want their students to succeed, and they do everything in their power to help them reach their goals. It was the greatest environment to work in and I am grateful to have had to opportunity to be apart of it.
This is the best school in Illinois! Mrs. Benifield is the best music teacher, Mrs. L teaches us art so well, and the gym teacher is great! I really want to thank Mrs. Breitz for being the best teacher for computers and library since Mr. Maisonet! If I could reccomend only one school I would pick McCleery Elementary School.
At first I was disappointed I felt as if the teachers were labeling my child as an easy way out. However, as time passed and I became more involved I was comfortable with the school and the style of teaching.
