Part of the reason we bought our home here in Batavia, was because of the school district, and we have not been disappointed. With a child in special ed, and a child in regular ed, we have had contact with MANY different teachers/workers in this school and have found most to be exceptional teachers and role models for our children. I feel confident in the leadership of Mr. Skomer and his commitment to the students is evident. My kids have been challenged, heard, and encouraged here.

If you have a Kindergarten student, just hope that you are lucky. It's a 50/50 chance if you get all day or half day. Child's age, ability and needs are not taken into consideration. Though all K teachers are good, some children really would benefit from all day program, the district says it's a lottery, but it is based on no specific criteria. Office staff could be friendlier.

Grace McWayne is an impeccable elementary school and I very much enjoyed my two years at it. Extracurricular activity is normally reserved for high and middle schools. New extracurricular activities are Chess Club, Track Team, and Chorus. Most of the teacher's are splendid. McWayne was very safe and discipline was normally handled. Parents could always pitch in on whatever field trip, activity, or book fair needed, and were always appreciated for it. The LRC (Learning Resource Center) is vast and useful, both the librarians are very friendly. Mr. Skomer is a wonderful principal that handles discipline, student's issues, and teacher's issues well. He is also very friendly and understanding to students/parents. This school is wonderful and I would recommend attending it.

I am personally very disappointed in the results my daughter has received from this school. With the school open only 3 years there are already problems with overcrowding. Due to this my daughter was unable to get into the full-time kindergarten program which was very upsetting. I feel that if they are unable to offer every child a full-time slot they shouldn't offer it to any. Otherwise, certain children have an advantage over others and certain parents are getting free daycare, while others like me are paying $185/week. I have not found the principal to be very helpful and the staff in the office is less than friendly. I am sorry to say that I hope that my daughter doesn't have to go to this school for very long.

My daughter is in Kindergarten now and I have been very impressed! I've seen such growth in her this year! Just about all the staff are nice and helpful. Her teacher, Mrs. Biage, is wonderful and caring! She is able to reach and teach kids at a very wide range of different levels- academic and social. She also allows for parent involvement at any level. Principal Skomer is very approachable and will work hard with you to solve any issues. The only thing that I would like to see is more feedback from the specials (art, music, PE, Spanish) about what the students are learning. Can get a lot out of this school, especially if you are an involved parent! I am also impressed by the board of education here! They have done better than most of the districts around here and try to be compassionate to the students and parents.

The academic programs in this school are low, the availability of music, arts, sports, etc. are limited, but, I have to say, the parent involvement is very nice.
