BHS is a great school. My 3rd and last child is a current student, the other two have graduated. Teachers are great, and want to help the students. Online access to students grades and attendance on a daily basis is a huge plus. With the new school on the north side of town crowding is no longer an issue. New this year is juniors who qualify are attending their last two years at Rock Valley College and able to earn their diploma and AA degree at the same time.
Being a senior at BHS I pretty much know whats up at this school. For the most part, the teachers are great. There are the few who are not exceptional but is there a school that is perfect? The guidance office on the other hand is horrible. They have never been able to help me with any of my questions, concerns or schedule changes. The building itself is kind of rundown. We don't have all of the new stuff that the new school has but it is not like Bhs is dilapitated or anything. The best part of the building is its performing arts center. The school has a great arts program. I dont know much about the sports program but football is a big deal here
I personally think Belvidere High School is a good school for regular kids. Some families simply can't afford the great quality and very expensive schools. Belvidere High School is a good school compared to the schools which have metal detectors and police officers and drug sniffing dogs throughout the school. It has great extracurricular activities. Some of us simply can't afford going to a private school. I'm thankful I'm going to Belvidere High School and not a broken down school.
We have 3 children that have passed through Belvidere High School so far, and I think children can exceed at Belvidere if they take advantage of what the school offers and avoid trouble. None of them got in fights (all of them are boys), and I found the teachers and coaches to be personally interested and caring of the children in their care. Our oldest son had mono freshman year, and was out for 4 months, and the school saw to it that a tutor came every night and brought his homework back and forth, he even took his finals at home. He kept his grades up the entire time, and returned to school healthy and up to speed with the other kids. He could not have done this without the help of a caring staff. Again, children get what they put into their high school experience at Belvidere.
I was in Belvidere schools from kindergarten through High School, and I feel that the quality of education was minimal at best. Both my sister and I endured harshness from some of our teachers, and therefore enhanced our low self-esteem. In general, I feel that we would have done better in school, had our teachers actually acted liked they cared about their students, rather than being so negative. Part of a teacher's job is to be a positive role model in a student's life. Not someone to consistently put a child down. We both turned out to be well adjusted young women, but through no contribution of the Belvidere School system.
I have 2 children enrolled this year and 1 more going next year. I do not believe the teachers care enough about the kids. There are way to many fights in that school and we now have a lockdown in each classroom after the bell rings. I want a safe and caring enviroment for my kids and this definetely is not the school for that
I believe that this school is a pretty good place for students to learn. While there are fights, the administration does everything it can to prevent them, and when they do occur the students involved are punished. There are a wide variety of classes students can take to help them with developing their skills. There are many college bound classes students can take. The teachers are great and each teacher is different. There are also many great clubs that students can paticipate in.
My child was enrolled here for the first yr. and had to be removed for her own safety's sake, because the school could not guarantee her safety. There are constant fights in the school that are ignored by all including teachers. It's a very poor school to send a child too and I would definitely think very hard before enrolling anyone there.
