I can say with little doubt that Bolingbrook High School, along with most VVSD schools, is the worst school in the state of Illinois. The teachers are poorly trained, the curriculum is un-educational, and the administration is corrupt. I do not recommend this school to anyone planning on getting any sort of education or prospect of college. If I could give it zero stars I would.
I think that BHS is a very horrible school. The fact that freshman from now on starting 2014, they will be in a program that makes them learn higher material then they should. The school should not do that since we did not learn the material that is required to be in the class. So whoever did this, they should be ashamed of themselves!
continued... The sad reason behind the low testing scores does not lie on the teachers rather it is the students lack of commitment to their grades and their future. I also enjoy the schools commitment to their special education program. I have experienced their after school program(best buddies), as well as help out in the low incidence classroom during my lunch and homeroom, and I am proud of the commitment towards the students. I for one would give BHS a 4 out of 5.
Overall I rate this school well. I have had 2 students go through BHS with completely different experiences, as they are very different people. My biggest concern is the size of the school. I think students get lost in a school that size and there are a lot of policies that are basic crowd control. That said, I have met many dedicated teachers and staff. Mr. Mitchem seems to be a very thoughtful and accessable principle. I have always been able to talk to someone to get an issue resolved. My children have graduated with choices and fully prepared for the college choices they made. They have made good friends and the host of activities and classes is excellent. The racial diversity has prepared them for the diversity of the real world.
most students have terrible attitudes. school policy is ridiculous. (students can retake any test up to 3 times! all seniors have no finals!) and even with these advantages, the test scores are still absolutely terrible. so many opportunities to learn and improve, so little effort. with students like these, this country is doomed. how can teachers be expected to succeed when students refuse to put in any effort?
As a sophomore, I have had time to experience BHS and form my own opinion of it. Bolingbrook High School, despite any thing, is an excellent school with a fantastic, hard working staff. While I love it there all around, I would have to say that the selection of AP courses is phenomenal, and the teachers are completely qualified. Students, while having some issues, as whole, have improved dramatically in just the past year and a half that I have attended BHS. We work hard to rid ourselves of the notorious reputation earned in the past. As Mr. Mitchem says, 'if there has to be a best, why not US?'
i use to attend bolingbrook and i have to say i love it. they have some of the best teacher.and mr mitchem is working his but off to keep us out of the news. the sports are great a nd also the people. just because a few bad things happened doenst me its a bad schoo.
This is my last year at Bolingbrook High School. I have been at the school since i was a freshmen, and I've completely seen the school go down hill.
as a freshman at BHS, i didnt really know what to expect going into a school of 3,500 or more students, but so far i have nothing to complain about. The staff is amazing in every way, and there is an abundance of afterschool activities to participate in ( especially band ;D ). also, Mr.Mitchem is making a true effort to ensure that students have a safe learning enviornment, and high quality equipment and facilities to aid in the educational process. As a student, you are provided with every posisible thing you could need to succeed there, and if the school is this awesome so far in my first year, i cant wait for what the next few have in store!!
No one ever said anything about how the student body stood by the Family of the fallen Currie High School Football Player. How they waited with the Family at the hospital, bought food to feed them, and after he passed comforted them. These are children we should be writing about.
This school offers diversified studies and has an honors program that has high standards.
We have an amazing network of teachers and staff, our band program rocks, and our theatre program is even better.
BHS is a decent school , not the best out there. Once one person messes up it messes up everyone in the school and we all have to pay 4 it. Im currently a senior and thank god this is my last year here , if i would've still lived in the city i probably would've been under bad influence just because i know how everythings works over there. Sometimes , i hate it here but its a good environment to stay focused in education. And im glad im almost done with high school life and ready for what ever life and college brings me ! =D Go Seniors !!! We run this 2010 always mini-shoe =]
Im currently a junior at bhs and have to say i love the school and the dedicated staff who are willing to help any time. These people do so much to ensure i have a chance at a great future. I have never meet a teacher thta is unwilling to staff after, come in early or email me to help me out. All these teachers go above and beyond to help there students. This school offers so many different programs and clubs that help keep kids off the streets. And i wold like to add that even tho this school has tons of kids, it is extremly clean, its unbeliveable how clean and well kept it is
I am a freshman at Bolingbrook High School and I think it is wondeful. This year we now have the retake policy which allows students to redo homework and tests that they did not do so well on. This gives all students the oppurtunity to pass each and every class, so now there is no reason for any student not to have an A. Along with the retake policy, students have so many resources for help with school work its not even funny, there is a math lab during every lunch and homeroom period where students can go to retake tests, study, and get help with homework. Having all this help with school is a blessing. If you have problems with another student we have the peer mediation center where your problems can be taken care of. Bolingbrook High School is truly amazing. ~Angelica~
i love my school. i love everytyhing about it too i have wonderful tecahers expescaiily for math and social studies. peopel are beiing mean and they should know th at Mr Mitchem is trying his hardes and i do apprciate him. my mom want me to go to downers grove south and i refuse. she tell me they have a swimming pool. but i cant swim i would not want to change my school or teachers for a school with a pool. people have to know that with every progrssing year that bhs is hetting better . and yes our school is getting over crowed but they are bulding a larger section too accomade the new freshmen. and they a now finishing up a new school for bolingbrook and planefeid students. dont look dow n on my school because of what you heard in the news. we are a good school..
i am a student at BHS and i think the school is WAY too big. that where alot of disipline problems come from, over crowding. and for the record, BHS has just enought deans, 9 to be exact. and 20 security gurads ans their not even done yet
The principal at this school is completley incompetent of maintaining order and following through with dicipline. His management of the dicipline code is poor at best. Inconsitencies and lack of consequences has allowed the students to run the show. Mr. Mitchum you should be ashamed that you allow bullies to participate in your sports program!!! Disgraceful!
Cons: Many behavioral problems, not enough deans/counselors, low academic standards, too many students, its extremely easy to ditch class and not get into trouble, lazy teachers. Pros: Modern and huge building, many extracurricular activities, fairly good after-school tutoring programs.
As a parent who once believed I would never send my child to Bolingbrook High School, I have been very pleased with the experience thus far. I have found all of my child's teachers to be both interested and committed to the education of their students. I have received unsolicited phone calls giving me progress reports, and the staff is accessible both before and after school for extra help. While I don't think that my daughter will fully benefit from the many changes that are happening in this district as she only has 3 years left; I do believe that we be known as one of the best schools in the area sooner than later
