Involvement of parents is really good. I am happy with the school but think kids need little more challenging academically.
Our daughter has been in the spotlight and still is able to remain in the shadows as she wishes. She can lead by example without being outspoken! This school is highly competitive because of parent involvement with their students. The education level is remarkable. All the structures are in place to be a benchmark school because the base foundation of character is in place and remains stable. Class size could be smaller but the expenditure rate is kept low. For a public school, Prairie is A-OK. Support/counseling is available to those who need it. On the negative side, as all schools, cliques do occur in all upper grade classrooms.
Overall, the school atmosphere is positive. The quality of academic programs prepares students for the next grade level. The school does not permit students to participate in music (band) until third grade however, which can be limiting for those students who are able and ready to do so. There is a good level of parental involvement through the PTO and other voluntary avenues. Where this school seems to need some work is in the character building area. They do not stress respect towards community or environment (except 'Earth Day'). There is a lack of a strong committment to aiding in other causes expect by giving money. There should more natural food choices within the lunch program. Due to highly chemical components entering our children's bodies. Parents who have children with special needs will absolutely need to know their rights and have a strong advocate on hand and follow up regularly.
