My two kids attended Kilmer and I have nothing but rave reviews for the school. My oldest attended another school in the district which is very high scoring but everyone we encountered came across as superior and were not friendly or accommodating. Kilmer staff across the board went above and beyond and actually cared for not only student but parents as well. Due to Government intervention that places un-realistic expectations on how schools must perform , kids cant be taught as teachers want to teach or in a way kids understand. To expect a school to perform well as compared with its neighboring schools and to penalize teachers when these goals are not met is not acceptable. Standardized testing given in English to a school with a majority of ESL students is also unrealistic. My two kids were excellent students who enjoyed their experience and their respective teachers . The ISAT percentages do not represent this school at all. This review is based off of 2012-13 yr and the teachers and principal during last yr

This school is fantastic in every way! The scores are not an accurate representation of the quality of education that occurs here. The score shown are an example of what happens when you provide an exam in English to ESL students, of which there are some. The teachers are caring and experienced. My children have loved this school for six years!

I don't know where the complaints are coming from. My daughter has been at Kilmer for 3 years and is the only diabetic child at the school currently. Everyone at Kilmer, including the principal has bent over backwards to accommodate her and her daily needs. Her teachers have all been amazing as well as the school nurse and health assistant. As far as academics, my daughter is smart and Kilmer has done their part to make sure she is challenged and doesn't get bored. You certainly couldn't ask better from a public school. I have been surprised day after day with this school. I'm glad my daughter goes here and not the Chicago Public School System like I did. More people should be grateful that we have great schools in our district.

Some of the teachers at Kilmer are great and go above and beyond to make sure their students learn. Others don't care. The principal allows overly pushy parents to get their way in things like who their kid will have as a teacher.

Our son is in first grade at Kilmer and we the teachers and administators are excellent, caring and professional. The level of individual attention to each child's personal growth is above and beyond our expectations.

The academic programs exceeded my expectations. There is great availablilty of music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities. There is a large amount of parent involvement. The faculty go above and beyond their call of duty.

  • Kilmer has a pto that works to provide quality programs and activities for students. the pto conducts several fundraisers throughout the year to support cultural arts programs and classroom supplies, technology, field trips, classroom magazines, evening activities and special requests from teachers. parents and community members also tutor and help teachers with special projects and activities.

  • I would welcome anyone considering moving into the Kilmer community to come and visit! The Great Schools ratings don't even begin to show the quality of education at Kilmer. The 2007-08 ISAT scores include English Language Learners who are still receiving support to improve their English skills (per No Child Left Behind) and who aren't proficient enough to take grade level exams - for fair comparisons, please look at schools with similar demographics. More importantly, visit us to see the high quality of instruction and education, the respect and the warm environment Kilmer is known for.
