this school is etxremely too strict. i put my child there so she can have a better chance of learning. not so she could be drilled about what color belt she has on. althought imust admit they do have great test scores.
this school is a let down the uniforms are horrible, the maintence is dispicable, and the grade scale is a ever changing seqence, my son and daughter were both sophmores and got the appropreciate grades to transend into juniors and around the end of summer all the suddend they get pushed back a grade after they told them they are juniors this was not fair i and other parents have decided to protest against this problem and someone must speak the truth.
After reading the below comments I am amazed at what I've seen. As a former student, graduate of 2005 I agree with some things. The discipline in Cahokia High school has only got harsher because the students have no self discipline and the parents of these students don't take ownership when their child does wrong. I know the faculty at this school cares a lot about the students. While attending Cahokia I thought it was the easiest school to ever attend. The teachers literally gave 'study guides' with all of the questions on the test and over half of the class would still fail the test.
Cahokia High School has been a very instrumental part of my life. Others may not like it because of its harsh rules, but it is giving students the discipline that they will need in their adult life. As far as the education goes, I think that it is fantastic. As a former student I took all honor courses and the faculty helped me in getting a full ride to the University of Illinois. I am going to receive two degrees and I will also be attending med school. If it hadn't been for the top notch faculty at Cahokia High, I do not believe I could have achieved all this. If I had to do it all over again and attend a different high school, I wouldn't. There may be schools that are academically better than Cahokia, but here the teachers reach out to each individual student to help them.
In my opinion, this school should have information available for parents in regards to what's going on at Cahokia High. There should be newsletters, online calendars detailing upcoming school events/and or activities, and just information to keep concerned parents aware of what going on in their district. Also, I don't think that there is enough afterschool activities for our children to get involved in. Everyone does not participate in basketball, football, or softball. There should be drama classes, dance esembles, etc. Let's give all students a chance to get involved.
As a former teacher as well as student of this school I would like to say I agree with Ms. Collins. There is a certain assistant principal who is always extreamly rude to students even when they do things that are good. I truly care about this school and the children in it but I'm sorry to say get out while you can. It's only going to get worse.
Please Help. We as a community as well as parents cannot keep allowing our lives to completely turned upside down when it comes to our children and our schools. We need the right to voice our opinion about what goes on in our schools, our police have to live in the community to be police officers, but we did not have the right to say that our children are not getting a good nor fair chance to an education. We have to do something before we loose all the homeowners, law abiding citizen, the police who care about community, and all the good people of all colors, ethnic backgrounds, and etc as long as they bring good to the community. 1) If a student has failing grades he/she is suspended for 5 days. 2) If a student has three tardy he/she is suspended for 5 day. (Even if you have already been suspended for tardy they do not go away, the school just keeps adding on to the ones you have already been suspended for Example: your child has been out on suspension for five days already for five tardy, the same day he/she goes back, he/she get a tardy at last hour, so now your child is suspended again for another five days instead of he/she just having one tardy they now have six) 3) It is okay for teachers to call our children names but our children get suspended for replying to comments made by the teachers. 4) Our children can be punished for things they are accused of doing even when not at school nor on school property. 5) When follow students witness a problem they are not allowed to tell their side of what they saw and/or heard. 6) Employees may discus problems about your child with others not employed by the school district such as other parents and/or other students.
