Why do you love Unity Point Elementary School? My grandchildren are students here and they are geting a good education and the school has a very diverse studentbody and always great activities for the kids.
Unity Point works very hard at being a small school. The teachers give the children a lot of individual attention and help. They offer many opportunities for the students to excel with competitions in history, science, music, math, and language arts. Sports are also an important part of the school history. As well as emphasizing the basics, Unity Point makes use of technology to extend the classroom experience and works hard to make sure that all children can compete in technology regardless of economic conditions in the home. Unity Point secured a grant providing each student have access to either a laptop or an ipad depending upon the student's grade level. Teachers take hours and hours of additional training so that they may make the best use of these devices with their students.
No school is perfect, but Unity Point offers my children the opportunity to attend school in an environment that is rich in cultural and ethnic diversity.
It is exceptional in teaching children of many different countries and cultures. A very good school for all students.
I must say that I miss Unity Point School soooooo much. I recently moved to Champaign Illinois and the schools here are nothing compared to Unity Point. Unity Point has an A+ breakfast and lunch menu, the programs are great and the environment is superb. Im contemplating moving back to Carbondale for my daughter to continue at Unity Point;
I have all three of my children enrolled at Unity Point. All three absolutely love the school. I am glad they are exposed to many cultures and have friends from many countries. I have found that the teachers do an excellent job providing instruction and activities that both help with mastery of skills and also enrichment. There are many dedicated coaches for athletics and also top notch art and music teachers that put on outstanding musicals and art displays.
My child is only in kindergarten this year, but he has already learned so much. I don't feel like he was challenged enough at his other school. The end of the first quarter is very close and he has already learned to read and spell several words, letters, numbers, etc. I am so impressed, so far, with the quality of education he is getting compared to his previous schools. He was behind on his speech and developmental skills at his other school, and has required very little of UP services, because he has advanced so much in the short time he's been there.
UP has been a great school for my child for the last six years. It's the best of both worlds, a large school with a diverse student population, resources & extracurriculars to go along with its size, a community of caring, intelligent teachers & staff that usually goes with small schools. For my part, the only downside was that there was nothing in place for the academically gifted kids after the Gifted Program funding was pulled statewide, as was true for most other public schools. These kids were sometimes viewed with relief as 'easy' kids who wouldn't take up much of the teacher's time. Although they weren't unique in failing to challenge the kids, I expected more. However, parental commitment to the school is phenomenal. This is a safe, loving school for kids to grow up in. A testimonial is that graduates from UP easily & successfully transition to high school.
My child attends Unity Point as a member of a low income, non-traditional family. We appreciate the diversity in education, ethnicity and academics which are among the highest quality in Jackson County. We have found the administrators, teachers and staff to be intelligent and caring. My child has been involved in all sports programs offered by the school.
I have been very impressed with unity point. i do not feel they push the students too hard and my son really enjoys the teacher and school. unity point has alot to offer the students.
