I rated Bloom Trail as unsatisfactory due to the FACT that the faculty/staff put more effort into disciplining the students than educating them. They keep the children out of classes by placing them in in-school suspension and out-of-school suspension for the smallest infraction, i.e. wearing a very thin jacket in the cold building during winter. I've noticed that when the kids try to defend themselves for a write-up by a teacher that they felt was unjust, the deans give them a harsher punishment. The teachers and deans are very disrespectful to both the parents and the students. They, like most other high schools and even elementary schools are teaching the kids backwards. When my son asked the teacher about why he got an answer wrong (according to the computer) when he could prove it was right, the teacher said "I know, it's just the way it is." They are preparing the children for prison not college. That school is a mess from the faculty/staff to the interior of the building. Look at the moldy ceiling, the very old and broken lockers, no air in the summer, and no heat in the winter. Nothing about that school is condusive to learning.

My children have had the good fortune of meeting many wonderful, inspirational, involved teachers and coaches. People who've given so much of themselves to the school, the district and the community.

My daughter just graduated from there with honors and in the National Honor Society. You get out of this school (or any) exactly what you put into it. Judge Mathis attend school in Englewood and look where he is. There is nothing wrong with this school and I would recommend sending your child there.

I graduated from BTHS in 2003, granted I had bad grades and didn't care about school, I enjoyed being at BTHS. There were lots of fights and apathy, but you get that at any school you go to. In my life I moved around a lot and attended differant schools every 4 years or so, and what I learned from Trail is acceptance and tolerance. Yes, there were some 'bad apples', but there were also some good kids and teachers. Before you decide not to send your child to this HS, take a tour of the school, talk to the teachers and deans. The photo teacher was wonderful. I enjoyed Yearbook and ceramics. English was great. My grades weren't that great because I didn't put forth the effort. I believe that is the main reason the test scores are low for the school. That would not be the teacher's fault.

I am very pleased with this school. I have one concern the test scores are low. One reason could be the school starts students to low in math classes. My son had algebra in Jr. High, he received grades at 84%. Yet much to my objection the school place him in a pre algebra class. Next year he will take the same class he had in Jr. High. Two years of education waisted. He will be behind the nation when he tests as a Junior, never getting a chance at High School Math.

I attended BTHS for my four years of high school. The quality of education is impacted by teachers, but also by the child's willingness to learn. Some may say the teachers there are young and maybe inexperienced, but there are also older, very well trained and experienced teachers there as well. For the 2003-2004 school year, one of the teachers won honorable mention for teacher of the year. Every school may have some problems, but overall, if your child wants to learn, they will be able to have that opportunity at Bloom Trail High School. By the way, I was one of the honor students, and yes, I had a mentor. However, many of the other students who had less than excellent academic records had mentors, too. And although some students had more than one mentor, most of the mentors had more than one student to mentor.

This school has a high influx of gang members. My children have been approached on several occasions to join gangs. My children are no longer enrolled at Bloom Trail they are being home schooled. The school is trying to improve it's educational quality level with specialised reading and math programs. The teachers I believe overall have the best for intensions for the kids, but it's hard when faced with a majority of the population who are only bidding their time until they are 16 and can drop out. Then, there are the teachers who immeiately take a dislike to students just because of the way they look. And we all know you can't judge a book by it's cover and the same goes for students too.
