Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am an 11th Grader at Hansberry College Prep. My School is a great school for High School Students to attend. The teachers really push the students to do their very best and not give up. They are always there when you need help and will work with you until you understand. This school is a safe environment that will truly prepare you for college. Hansberry focuses on getting you to college and making sure you have all the skills you need to adequately be prepared for college. Hansberry provides many opportunities to visit colleges and even has a Summer of a Lifetime program where students get to spend 1-3 weeks on a college campus, in or out of Illinois. -MJ

Hansberry College Prep is a school of excellent academics. At Hansberry no child is left behind nor are they limiting when it comes to learning. The staff takes all of the needed precautions to ensure that all students get the learning no matter what level of learning. Class sizes are small enabling every student to be spoiled. As a junior I've learned that relationships throughout the years grow stronger and healthier. Hansberry overall is a loving and safe environments.

I currently attend this school. I can honestly say I've grown to like the school. There are somethings I don't agree with some of the rules, but I've learned they were made for a reason. If you're not ready to take control life and start getting ready for college than this school isn't for you. If you're willing to take control, grow as a person and a scholar, and prepare for college, this school is for you.

My school holds up to every aspect of its name. For example, -Noble is the idea of having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals, and at my school they have a discipline system that, by the end of the four years , will be the key representations of this Noble idea. - Hansberry comes from the famous Lorraine Hansberry who is, in fact, best know for her writings. The school provides programs that help improve our writing skills as well as programs that provide us the opportunity to express our writing. Another example would be College Prep. The school provides us classes that are most challenging to us so that when we go off to college we know how to maintain ourselves under the challenge that college gives. I like how the school has great intentions to create a well rounded student. However, the school is all work no "play" we do things that are academically fun. We never get any free time and at times we get in trouble for trying to be ourselves. This is where the school needs great improvement. (E.P)

This school is prison, a place which you'll find yourself dreading arrival upon every morning. I feel only absolute sympathy for any future generations that will be forced to endure it.

I am currently a student a Hcp and let's just say that I can not wait until I transfer. This school is overly strict. Students get penalized for every little infraction. This school is honestly not a happy place. If you would like for your child to be happy at school and enjoy their high school experience then do not send them here. They have a meter that measures the students volume in the lunch room and if students hit a certain maximum then they have to be quiet for the duration of the lunch period. On a little positive note, Hcp has some amazing teachers that's honestly care about student's futures. The teaching here is great, but that's about it. That have little parties in the gym to reward good grades and behavior as well. Personally, I am not happy here and dread getting up and going to school. I understand that education is key, but there also should be a balance. Students rarely get a chance to talk and be teenagers. If they would relax on the rules then I believe that this would be a fairly decent school, but I still plan on transferring before the year is over.

Recently toured the school and loved what I saq. The academics here is top notch. They offer the IB program which is a rigorous and challenging curriculum. Teachers seem excited to teach, kids seem very disciplined and the principal is leading the school in the right direction. Noble schools have a 100% college placement rate. Hansberry school is small in population and in size(one floor bldg). Newly built and facilities is state of the art. The school have strict policies to ensure discipline and rules are followed. This school is not for everyone, so if you have a child that cant follow the rules and do not want to leatn, please do not even apply. But if you have a child that want to succeed in life and not be a statistic, then apply. My daughter will be attending in thr fall and we cant wait!

I recently transfered from Hansberry College Prep. You will love this school if you're looking for a prison as an educational center. If you like diversity do not attend this school. If you like being happy when coming to school this is not the place! -Former Student
