We feel so very lucky to have our daughter at La Salle. Not only is she receiving the best public school education, she is learning, respect, dedication and oh-so much more. The lower grade teachers, have been outstanding. They are loving, caring and outstanding educators. We are getting a privite school education at a Chicago public school. How lucky we are!!

The reputation that Lasalle has for being a good school is just that 'a reputation'. The curriculum at the school is the best you'll find anywhere public or private, but it's the teachers that need serious improvement. First of all they lack people skills when it comes to interacting with the parents. For the entire time my child has been there I've never been greeted with a 'Hello' or anything of that nature when meeting with a teacher or the assistant principal for that matter. Second the teachers need to be educated on how to solve and help the children solve any problems/conflicts that arise instead of screaming at the children and ignoring the situation at hand. I feel that if Lasalle would really like to rise to the good reputation that it has there needs to be some form of intervention with the teachers and the principal included.

LaSalle has traditionally been one of the 'hottest' schools in the area (if not the hottest). It's always been very difficult to get into, and this probably feeds into its reputation. The reality is that it's a pretty good school, but has its drawbacks, many of which are endemic to the fact that it's a public school. Much of the faculty is 'dead wood,' especially in the upper grades. Some parents take their kids out in these grades for just that reason. The big inducement to stay is a class trip to the country of their foreign language in 7th or 8th grade. On the other hand, one of its strengths is its diverse student body. It draws from all of Chicago's ethnic neighborhoods. Another of its strengths is parental involvement. However, the parental participation is overwhelmingly white, and minority parents are sadly underrepresented in this area. Not by deliberate discrimination, of course, but probably by economic circumstances.

I'm an eighth grader who attends LaSalle. Frankly, the school sounds good in theory, but after several years, its only purpose is to make the students savor the weekends. I admit, some days can be fun, but this year there has been nothing all that great about anything. We've all lost interest in the upcoming assembly, we have learned absolutely nothing in mathematics, and all student-run organizations(i.e. student council) have no power whatsoever. We are living in a dull oligarchy at school.

My daughter has attended Lasalle Language Academy for five years. My daughter is learning how to speak Spanish, she is also developing people skills and overall she is getting the best Education that I could have ever hope and prayed for. The Principals all seem to work well with the Teachers. The strong point of this the School I think is that the Children are well behaved. The children learn to help each other, they are also very respectful to one another. This is a plus and it helps for the overall unity of the School. They all work together to make LaSalle the great School that it is today. This School is one of the best Schools in the City and I always recommend it to anyone who ask. Sincerely, A Grateful Parent!

Every since my oldest child has been attending Lasalle, I have never thought of another school for my other two childern. It is the greatest elementary school ....ever!
