I'm a student at this school. I love it! The teachers are very nice and helpful. If you're struggling on homework or what you might be learning in that class, they'll take off their lunch time for you. Or there is also a club where they help you on homework or if you're struggling in math. They have amazing clubs for you to join. This is a really good school! I highly recommend it.

I graduated in 2009 from this school. If you want a great education go with the honor and AP classes. The regular classes are to easy and will not prepare you for college, at all! The teachers are wonderful and so are the clubs. I personally recommend the Mayor Daley book club, Asian club, and environmental club. If you take higher level courses and get involved with the different clubs the school has to offer you will have a wonderful experience!

I'm currently a student it Lake View High School. It's one of the most amazing schools ever. I been to a lot of schools and this one is my favorite. Students are really friendly they will help you out. There is mostly no drama. :) The teachers are amazing. They actually know what to do. Not like others. The school has a dress code just to keep us more on track, and not to worry about what to wear. I'm just in love with that school it's just amazing. But now its becoming a magnet school, which means that it will be harder to get in. Well good luck. I hope you enjoy the school as much as I do.

My brother went to this school and it is a shame that people look down upon this school because he said most of the teachers are extremely friendly and helpful, especially that A.P. Calculus teacher. I am currently an 8th grader hoping to get into a selective enrollment school but Lake View is definitely on my list. He said they are very well known for their sports and their music, it's true. I've also taken a field trip to Lake View and I must say that I'm very impressed with the clubs they have, I mean come on the French Club members all have shots to trips in France! How awesome is that? Their principal is very nice, he's a kind person from my experience of meeting him.

Lake View is a great school where both the students and their parents have close relationships with their teachers. Each and everyone of the teachers care about where the student is headed and how they handle things in life. I am a student from Lake View and I know first hand that the teachers love what they do and give each and every student the tools they need to succeed in life.

The school is located in a decent area - counselors are paper-challenged and it's sometimes difficult to meet with them or other staff regarding the children. The teachers are knowledgeable and most are reasonably caring. Good AP programs - but it's a race to get required credit classes due to overcrowding. Discipline leans toward losing class time for very minor offenses (i.e., tardiness, something that sometimes can't be helped, and doctor's appointments, unless an emergency), which in turn can lessen a child's chance of passing class and/or graduating on time. One of the better high schools overall.

Teachers are a hit or miss. Your chances of graduating are decent...that is if you live to see the day. Bottom line is, if you want your kid to succeed in life by graduating from college, send him/her to a private school. If you can't afford it, then Lake View is acceptable, as long as you encourage your kid to take AP courses and get good teachers. It's literally a skill to not be able to graduate from this place.

I was a student at Lake View 3 years ago, and from experience I can say that Lake View is a great school, asa well a the teachers. The are all for the most part very supportive.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Illinois used the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) to test students in grade 11 in reading, math and science. The PSAE is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Illinois. What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
