Lane has some great things. Unfortunately, the kids seem cliquish and unfriendly. The atmosphere does not foster success for the students. The counselors don't seem to notice when a child is in trouble.

My school is unique...to say the least. I'm currently finishing my junior year at Lane, and the school has definitely been a challenge. If you're a parent you should send your child to Lane to experience diversity like no other, challenging school work, and to gain a proper education. If you're a student, and Lane is on your list of potential schools definitely choose Lane! As a student you'll meet sooo many people, and you most likely won't like everyone...but that's life. Overall Lane provides a well rounded experience.

This school is amazing. Don't be scared by the size. Case manager and social worker are amazing!!! Great teachers and admin also!

I am focusing this review on the social event opportunities not the academics. If I'd known how the social events were managed I would have steered my child differently. My senior has participated in sports all 4 years and has done well academically. My complaint is with the limited opportunity to attend school dances and events requiring limited tickets. I feel that social aspects are important to consider as well as academics and athletics. I understand that there are close to 5000 kids at Lane and limits must be put in placed. However, I find it sad that junior and seniors do not have a better opportunity than freshman and sophomores to attend dances. This year only 160 tickets were available per lunch period on a first come first serve basis(last year it was 300). My child rushed to the line and the tickets sold out. It was a repeat of prior years at Lane. Again, seniors were not given a priority over freshman or sophmores. So 4 years at Lane, working hard, representing LT in sports and my child has not been able to go to the homecoming dance at all. Words cannot express how sad I am that my child, once again, was has been left out of an memorable high school event.

My daughter is a graduate of the Inaugural class of 2013 Lane Tech Academic Center. As a south sider I was a bit concerned with sending her on the other side of town. Best decision I ever made. I love the Administration, Teachers, Security, coaches, students and parents. Excellent community. I daughter continues to grown academically and personally by leaps and bounds!!! We love Lane - Myrtle & Gold all the way!!! GO INDIANS

This school has many great class options, such a wide variety. The new LTAC six year program is great because it allows the students to get a head start on high school courses and then college. This school has done very great with this program by having such amazing teachers, so many classes and activities, and support by upperclassmen. Overall this school is fantastic!

Lane offers many more classes than any other high school out in Chicago. This year Organic chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, and engineering and design were available as electives. Next year Neuroscience, Apple Class (where you design your own apps), and a class where you build your own PC and design your own IOS will be offered. There are many more classes but these are just a few of the new ones. You get what you put in. Great school.

Lane is so diverse and so academically challenging, if you take the right courses, you cannot go wrong. There is something for everyone here and I do not regret coming one bit. I am proud to be going to the School of Champions. Who are we? LT!

The academic center at this school is amazing. It is very advanced. This school also has a great orchestra, and in general, music program (band, chorus, etc.). Lane is very diverse, with different kinds of people and a variety of clubs and sports. There is a great Science Olympiad Team here (both high school and the academic center) and a good math team. I would also like to mention the teachers here are amazing.

Lane Tech's Academic Center is GREAT. My son was in the inaugural 7th grade class and LOVED it. He was challenged, and supported not only by the teachers and staff, but also the upperclassmen. Its a great academically advanced program option for students on the north side, and all over the city. All classes are taught at the honors level and our son already had 2.5 high school credits by the end of this year. 7th grade extracurricular activities this first year included football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, track & field, cheerleading, chess, drama, debate, science olympiad, Latin Curtamen, math team, chess, and volleyball. More programs are being planned for next year already. They had their own formal dances and other social student events as well as a 7th grade trip to Springfield. Next year the 8th graders are off to Washington DC. Just an awesome program all around.

I graduated from Lane in 2009, I Loved it!!! Those were the best years in my life so far. Drama Club, GSA and being apart of the mentoring program gave me so many memories. Some teachers weren't the best, but every school has that. I want to teach at Lane when I get done with school at DePaul. Just a great place to be, I always felt safe and I always wanted to go to school.

Lane is a wonderful school. Students have so many classes and activities to chose from. The AP classes are challenging but students learn so much through them. Most teachers are very supportive as well as the community and other students. Some of its best qualitie's are that the school is diverse and the students very united.

Lane is a fabulous school and keeps improving. The principal, Dr. Lobasco is not only great at what she does but also listens to the parents and responds. The parents seem to becoming more involved, and I like the academic, sports, music, service and other various programs that the school provides. Students need to stay focused but they can become involved in so many things. Great school!

My daughter recently graduated from Lane and I couldn't be happier with the quality of education she received there. The teachers and administrators really do put the children first and push them to their fullest potential. The student body is full of bright young minds ready to learn and push things to the next level. My daugher will be heading off to college with all that she has learned at Lane (both in and out of the classroom) and will be striving to be the best that she can be. Thank you Lane!!!

I am really glad we chose Lane Tech for my daughter who was accepted into the Advanced Honors program. The program is rigorous and keeps her on her toes but it was the feeling we got from the open house that made us choose Lane over other schools. That feeling has not gone away. My first time there, I noticed the down to earth nature of the faculty as well as the students. The kids were happy, friendly and outgoing unlike in other selective enrollment schools where the kids seemed overconfident and entitled. The teachers and staff at Lane could not be nicer or more helpful; despite the large size of the school, they treat each student as an individual. Students have to prove themselves academically but respect for the individual is always present and encouraged. I feel that my daughter is getting a real world experience in this high school every day, where she is taught how to compete, thrive and become a socially responsible person. When she had a problem last year, the staff, principal and teachers were attentive and have helped her get back on track. Go Lane go!

Very attentive, devoted, well trained, and experienced teachers and incredible counseling staff. This Selective Enrollment school is fortunate to have a population of devoted students with success on and off the field. It now has the newest Academic Center for 7th and 8th graders.

This is the VERY BEST High School in Chicago and possibly in the nation!!! Consider yourselves privileged. Stop complaining and whining about the little things. You must be expecting everything is going to be handed to you and don't need to try to achieve knowledge on your own. If you follow this path, you will never achieve success in life. Do what you need to do to graduate and continue on in your education and you will be successful. Good Luck. ..........A 1964 Alum

This is a great school. I have no regret going to this school. It has great teachers, friendly student body, and lots of extra curriculum activities. If you can name all the top rank universities in the United States, in any of them, there will be at least a Lane Tech student attending it.

Lane is a fantastic school! I'm currently a freshman there and even though it's early in the year, I now my 4 years there will be something to look forward too. You'd think that in a student body of 4600+ you wouldn't get any one-on-one help from teachers or know anyone, but it's completely different. Teachers are always willing to listen to your problems or help after school and in all the extracurricular actives you can join, it's easy to find friends. The students aren't clique-y and in a group of friends, you can see different races and personalities. Most of the student body is really friendly. The campus is gorgeous and so is the building. It's always kept up so nicely.

Lane used to be a great school, but the leadership has gone downhill since the current administration has taken over. I've sent three children through Lane, but I'm pulling out the youngest one to homeschool because the administration blamed the teacher when my son complained of too much work. This is not leadership! I have seen the leadership fail in many other areas, but that was over the top.

i am currently a lane tech senior and this school is the best choice my mother made for me. i wanted to go to taft but my mother made me go to lane and here i trully found who i am not having to choose clicks either da nerds the jocks or thugs..here its you hanging out and socializing with anybody of any skin or race, here you hang out with people who have the same interests as you.nothing is imposed on us, we make our own choices, i feel safe something that students of other schools have to worry about on a daily basis, teachers are freindly, and there are so many clubs and sports you can join to keep yourself occupied. i love my school and would never trade it to go to another high school

I am a student and Lane Tech is a great place for students to express there individuality. They have no uniforms which can help (or hurt depending on if you abuse the privilege) to make friends fast and express yourself. They also have a fantastic art program. There are gangs at Lane ( trust me I know some of them even though I don't associate with them) but it doesn't seem to be as big of a problem as other schools

There are good teachers, but there is no consistency from subject to subject as far as teachers striving towards excellence. Parental involvement is not apparant, the school does little to communicate regarding upcoming events, parent involvement, or safety issues.

My son is a sophmore at Lane. He has some learning disabilities and receives services from the Special Services Department. They have been wonderful to work with and really look out for his best interests. Given the size of the school, I have been very impressed with the quality of the teachers. The administration also seems to be very well organized and able to handle the large number of students. My son says that the students are all well-meaning and easy to get along with. He has never felt intimidated or overwhelmed. And, contrary to the repeated rumors I hear from people who have never set foot inside of the school, there are no gangs at Lane Tech.

While I must admit that this is my daughter's first year at Lane, I have to say that I am a little disappointed (although I suppose the school's size should be taken somewhat into account here). The guards yell at the top of their lungs, and it seems the school has more than its fair share of new teachers who don't seem to be the least bit interested in their students. Still, it's better than most.

I am currently a student at lane, I personally don't mind the school, it teaches somewhat in an advanced way, but its not exactly how I thought it would be. Lane Tech used to be on the top; # 1 overall on test scores but now theyre trailing on 27th which isn't a good sign. I personally don't mind comming to Lane Tech because it's better then regular schools out there. Another thing is that Lane Tech isn't looking for the best students out there to accept them into the highschool, which affects it's reputation

My son is presently attending Lane Tech entering his junior year. I absolutely am impressed with the way the school is able to focus on these children with being so large. I appreciate the way they teach the children to strive for success. My son loves school and has maintained a GPA of 3.6. My son was also inspired to choose a career in freshman year, and is working towards his choice of career. My son is in sports, and I love the diversity of the school, along with the fellowship of the parents who partake in everything.

My son had some special needs that were immediately addressed. The staff and teachers were caring and helpful. They were genuinuely concerned about his scholastic, social and emotional well-being. Very impressive for such a large school. After a disciplinary issue the dean was very understanding, helpful and encouraging. Took the time to really talk to me. Again, not what you might expect from such a large school. The size of the school seems to intimidate many prospective parents, students. For us it has not been an issue. Teachers are also responsive and available. Amazing range of opportunities for kids. A place for everyone to fit in and do well. Love this this school!

Lane Tech is very dedicated to it's academic programs. They offer five different curriculums, they include, Core, Honors, Tech, Music, and Art. Lane also offers many sports, such as football, basketball, swimming, water polo, lacrosse, softball, wrestling, tennis, track and cross country... and many more. Parents of Lane Tech students are constantly involved in the school, whether it be at school functions, opportunities for community service, or many are a part of the PTSO and LSC. Lane is a great school because of it's diversity. It stresses academics, as well as athletics and community service so that students are prepared for the real world.

My son graduated in 2001, he enjoyed his high school years. I have no complaints at all about his 4 years at Lane. He went thru tutering on Saturdays, and after school whenever he had problems, and his home room teacher was a pleasure to talk to and was genuinely interested in her students. Lane offered my son so many different ways to get the help he needed and he in turn recieved and maintained a 3.0 GPA which has inspired him to continue his education. Lanes opportunities are wonderful, but remember, parents & students must seek them out, that is why they are there.
