If you have options let this school not be one. All teachers are great but the administration is horrible. Teachers are forced to do things that are unnecessary and in turn not helpful for the overall school or students in the long run. Many kids at the school are disrespectful to the adults that work there and the administration does not have effective consequences for students like them. Bad kids are kept in the classroom which in turn take education away from those students who are there to learn and become college and career ready. I have heard kids talk back to many teachers and even the principal and assistant principal as well. Do not send your child here unless you plan to hear things like these going on in school. There are too many fights amongst students, no respect, limited supplies, no support, bullying etc.

This school is fantastic it has a lot of programs that keep us out of trouble. I've been their all my life and haven't had a problem right now is my 8th grade year and i'm looking to graduate.

Harold Washington is a very good learning base school that has a lot of good teachers that care that the children learns. The teachers take pride in there students and goes the extra mile to make sure the children understands the subject. The school has a lot of history in building alone. I have two daughters who attends this school. They have not been so excited to attend school everyday. I see my children learning everyday, they come home everyday telling me the new things they have learned. It is a joy to see the children learning at Harold Washington Elementary.

I love Harold Washington! I have two boys who attend grades first and sixth. They have had some wonderful teachers during this educational journey at this school. The principal is awesome and takes the children education very serious. There are so many activities for the children to be involved in. Parents should definitely bring their child to this school because the teachers are very educated and the principle as well as the assistant principal cares about the children. They encourage the parents to volunteer and be a part of their child's education.

I just transferred out of this school and I am very glad I did. This school is a very bad enviorment for students. If you have a child that is not in school yet DON'T send them here.

We currently have 2 children who attend HWES and we are very pleased with their progress.Our youngest child(gr.kdg),over the past 9 months has learned how to read,write,add and subtract. Special thanks to Ms.Butler kdg teacher!You Rock!Our oldest child (gr.5)had a rough start, but thanks to his classroom teacher and the techno-logy coordinator,he overcame his problems and made this year a success! HWES offers JROTC, music,art,p.e.,library,Joffery Ballet,Beta Club, Ribbon Dancers,marching,jazz and concert band, chorus,drama,and a partner-ship with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.HWES is the host of special activities/programs such as Black History Read-In,Young Author's,reading contest,math contest, technology,attendance assemblies,spelling bees, Book It,Read to Succeed and a science fair. I would highly recommend this school to any parent who is looking for a high level of academic achievement for their child and superior teachers.Parents get/stay involved!

Harold Washington Elementary School is a great school. My son's teacher Mrs.Miller is doing a great job. I am very pleased with this school. Keep up the good work.

Harold Washington is a great school the principle does a beautiful job with the kids. My only problem is there are no activity for the kids such as basketball, band, dance etc. After the school the children have to much time on their hands and they need to put there energy into something postive.
