Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Our child is a Kindergartener at Mark Sheridan. This school has been excellent. His primary teacher and specialist teachers have been extremely supportive and enthusiastic. The administration is passionate, caring and involved. The older children at the school are extraordinarily polite and well mannered and they provide positive role models for the younger children. The school has great diversity. In addition, there is an intangible positive vibe about the school that is infectious. Class sizes are very good for CPS. The building has tons of charm.

It's my son's second year attending Mark Sheridan and all I can say is that it' a wonderful school. The teachers and staff that I have meet so far have been wonderful. The education that the child receive here at Mark Sheridan might be challenging, but in the end, it's a great challenge that the students will benefit from moving into the future. Keep up the great work MSA!

Mark Sheridan is an example of what all public schools can be. Diverse, challenging, always striving to do even better than the last year. The teaching and administrative staff are highly invested in the success of the students and in keeping the parents in lock-step with their mission. Not only are the academic achievements outstanding but the requirements for every student to practice inclusiveness and civility makes for a wonderful experience for all MSA students.

As a college professor who has conducted research in urban public schools and as parent of a MS student, I have come to appreciate the effort that MS faculty and staff continue to make to ensure the success of students . It starts at the front door with the Principal who knows students by their names and greets them at the school door. It continues in the classroom with a teacher who types an individualized progress report for my daughter at the end of each semester. It extends to relationships with parents who are welcomed into the life and environment of the school. And finally, it continues in the way that the administrators, faculty, and staff "make it work" for the students. MS is an island in the CPS system. When are schools are failing just blocks away, MS continues to succeed with a very diverse student population and diminished resources. No whining. No belly-aching about the performance reviews. No negativity. Just doing school as it ought to be done everywhere in Chicago!

I have two kids that went to MSA. One has graduated and the other is in 7th. The school is great and the teachers really do care about your child and their relationship with the parents. Majority of the teachers are very understanding and approachable. The involvement of the parents at school is great. No matter what the event was there is always a group of parents helping out. Most of all the school is challenging and prepares the children for high school very well. I am very proud to say I am a wildcat mom and I recommend this school.

This is the fourth year that my two children (who are currently in grades 3 and 4) have attended MSA, and I could not be more pleased. My children are given demanding and thought-provoking work and homework that does not exceed their abilities but demands their best work. The teachers at MSA are involved, in close contact with me, and work incredibly hard. The administration is available and accessible. The school's anti-bullying policy has been a huge benefit to my daughter and my son has received excellent special education support from the IES department as well as his regular ed. teachers. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to watch our children thrive at MSA.

Mark Sheridan is a 'Spotlight' school, which speaks for itself. The structure of the classes beginning with kindergarten is symbolic of the character of the instructors and the principle when it comes to defining a solid knowledge base. The children are taught to be responsible and self-directed, which is a plus in today's society.

Mark Sheridan Academy is a school that prides itself with excellence. As a single parent of two children, the Faculty and Staff are truly there for me. MSA has a welcoming environment that enables all children, even those with disabilities, to have an equal chance of empowering themselves. I am truly grateful that MSA strives to create future leaders for this world.

From the top down, there is a commitment to be good leaders and role models. There is true and real desire by the entire faculty to educate the whole child by doing the right thing not just saying it.

One of Mark Sheridan's best attributes is the fact that the teachers and parents care about the quality of education the children receive and work together well to achieve that standard. A key to a good school is not only the great faculty that works there, but the community that surrounds it. Mark Sheridan is that school, they as well as the neighborhood deserve that money because they have earned it. Thankyou for this opportunity, this school will use that money to its full potential if awarded it.

I love the school because my daughter has learned so much so early. The teachers and staff truly work well with the children. It's a friendly atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and devoted to helping the children. So many great activities for the kids such as Family Reading Night, Walk-A-Thon, etc.... After School Programs. I am amazed at what my daughter as learned at such an early age. The Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Teachers, and Staff, Security Guards, and Lunch Staff are all devoted and involved in the best interest of all of the students. We are a Bully Free School and everyone is working hard to teach the kids the importance of being kind to one another. I chose Mark Sheridan for my child's education and I know I made the right decision.

Mark Sheridan is an excellent school. The teachers and administration truly care about the students and push the students to be the best that they can be. Mark Sheridan also has several events throughout the year that involve the whole family to partiicipate in the learning of thier child including Science Fair night and Reading night. The school also is rich in diversity so students will learn about many other cultures and be prepared for the real world. My child is having fun while doing many hands-on activities that facilitate her learning.

MSA is an awesome school. It is obvious when you enter the building how nurturing the learning environment is. The faculty at this school takes pride in our children and the job they have teaching them. The recent awards our school has received makes that evident. I am a proud MSA parent and highly recommend this school to any parent.

I am a teacher at MSA and am honored to be a part of the MSA community. WOW, the amazing things we could do if we won $20,000. Update the technology in the classrooms, offer more afterschool programs... There are so many things I would love to bring into the school, if only : )

As a 3-year parent with MSA, I have found it to be a great place for learning. As an academy, there is a higher standard of excellence and the staff and student body continues to strive to excel. MSA touts an average scorecard in the 90's and is noted as one of the best schools in the city of Chicago. Parental involvement is very strong at Sheridan and MSA provides many opportunities for parents to continue to be involved. The current principal and vice principal are very progressive and have a real-time pulse on the teaching staff as well as what opportunities exist for its students and staff. I'd like to see a robust foreign language component and a more advanced curriculum in the lower grades. I am glad my daughters attend MSA.

My daughter is just entering 5th grade, and this a our first year at Sheridan Academy. I am pleased with her teacher, who is new to the school, but pleasant and knows how to administer disciplinary policies in a way that does not decimate the children's self-esteem. The administration made us feel welcome and we are quite pleased with the positive learning environment and everything we have experienced thus far.

This is my son's 1st year at Mark Sheridan, I am very happy with his progress. Kindergarten expectations are high and the students are challenged. The class sizes are large but the teachers manages them well; the children are split into groups to make learning more managable. the children also have drama class, gym 2 a week, computer class and science lab, my son loves going to school! Ms. Woo is a great and responsive K teacher Ms. Williams

This year marks my son's first year at Sheridan. So far, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of education he is receiving. The class size is on the high side, but this is a common issue within many schools across the city. For the number of children in his class, I think his teacher does an excellent job. There is a strong focus on academics-kindergarten is really almost like 1st grade. There seems to be a positive connection between the principal, teachers, and parents that transcends into the classroom. Overall, I am happy and my son appears to have a good time learning.
