This is a great school. Our daughter has blossomed through the programs there including the mock store, apartment, and opportunity to gain vocational skills. The special Olympics program is awesome. The teachers and principal care about the students and take special interest in the growth of the students. Southside is really a family school and a gem on the south side of Chicago!

What a diamond in the rough! The teachers are great, the principal is awesome! I couldn't find a better school for my special needs nephew anywhere! Everyone I met there appears to take a special interest in the success of each student. I am very fortunate to have a inner city school that meets the needs of our special children in a very special way. Great programs with emphasis on life skills that promote independance. A real gem!

my nefrew went to this school and this school is excellent. Students are encouraged to have as genral as education as possible. The teachers including the Principal are devoted to the needs the students needd to go further than high school prepartion. Included are work experience, gallery thirty-seven, hospitals and the normal mainframe. We can all benefit from schools such as SouthSide Occupational Academy.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

Oops! We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Public and charter school test scores for most states come from the state Department of Education. The most common reasons we might not have this data are either that not enough students took the test or that the school was recently opened, and its scores have not yet been reported.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
