St. Therese has some excellent teachers except for Spanish and Computer technology. Students are directed to use Rosetta Stone software for Spanish rather than being "taught" by a teacher. For Computer Technology, they are directed to websites to learn about computers. These methods/tools are no subsitute for real classroom instruction. I was amazed that my kids don't know how to use MS Word and ultimately, I was the one who had to teach them at home. The school advertises that it is state of the art with ipods and ipads, however, they are only taken out and used when VIPs are scheduled to visit the school. Unfortunately, my kids have graduated from St. Therese with little or no knowledge of Spanish or computers.
I am a parent at St. Therese School. The teachers and staff are caring, wonderful people and are always welcoming. They know your child from the first day of school. I believe that St Therese embraces family values, community service , and provides an education that is the foundation for the children's future. St. Therese was named the 2011 Blue Ribbon School and in 2012 was a finalist in the Intel School of Distinction Award. The children learn Mandarin Chinese, Conversational Spanish and are immersed in the Chinese Culture. The parents are involved in the school. St. Therese and the parents have one goal. The goal is to provide our children a loving environment for them to learn and excel in academics. The children are polite and care for each other. The upper grades mentor the lower grades which I think is wonderful. My son is looking forward to the day that he can also be a mentor. He enjoys his school immensely and participates in the after school activities. He enjoys Chess,Taiko Drums and Robotics after school. My son loves the diversity of the school. St Therese is providing him a solid foundation for the future.
In today's society speaking your mind and allowing creativity flow throughh is crucial. St.Therese does not support that. In fact they practically shove demerits in your face if you do so. The computer/Spanish teacher is an arrogant and boisterous person. He constantly flings demerits around as if they were to be toyed with. Of course, it is not, for it a very serious matter. Demerits at this school happen to be called, conduct referrals. He bellows out "conduct referral" and flicks it into a child's face often and never gives a chance for the child to speak. In computer classes, he isn't even teaching computer. He just makes the students go on some website and "study." I'm surprised st.Therese would even allow this person to be employed.
The quality education and afterschool programs allows this small community and the students the synergy to propell themselves for greater oppotunitites.
Recognized as a leading institution with a focus in Chinese and Spanish language for their students. No other Chicago area school offers this curriculum!
I have known this school for many years. This school is a great school of academics and culture including chinese and spanish. They have great technology that kids could interact with while having a great time and great curriculum. I will always recommend this school!
St. Therese offers not only an excellent environment for study but also a well grounded, high quality education. Students feel engaged at all levels of classroom teaching. The school has a great teacher to student ratio which contributes to the overall involvement of the students.
I have 2 children in this school and I feel that the education they are receiving now will help excel them for the future.
I love this school because it is such an important part of the Chinese community. I don't think that there is another grade school in Chicago that immerses its' students in such a rich culture. It is an early bridge to Chinese culture. If you want your child to be more comfortable in traveling to/living/working in/working with China in the future, St. Therese is a great place to learn and grow.
St. Therese has great teachers and a great principal who care and takes the time to pay attention to the lttle details in helping each child succeed.
I went to school there when I was a child. Now, I'm sending both my kids there. It's a great school!
It is the best school, Principa, teacher and all the staff are great, St.Therese is a great family oriented school with the best curriculum
Excellent academics, technology (whiteboards) in each classroom, good selection of enrichment programs, upper classmen look after younger students, good core values and emphasis on Christian values - and that's from a non-Christian. So wonderful to find such a gem for a neighborhood school!
Involved and caring faculty, staff, principal and, more importantly, parents & guardians. Great academics. Just wish it had facilities for gym and auditorium.
Probably the first school in Chicago to offer Cantonese and now Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Great curriculum that is always being updated to new and better standards. Devoted and caring faculty and staff.
St. Therese school offers a great education with scores to prove it. The principal and faculty really care about the children.
