Mount Carmel HS offers a superior scholastic experience, dedicated to the development of young men in a safe, challenging and requiring environment. My Grandfather liked the biblical phrase, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another". Mount Carmel HS provides the 'iron' necessary to sharpen the 'iron' that is the 'young men of Mount Carmel HS', and these are the 'young men' who wish to one day graduate as 'Men of Carmel'. The discipline and dedication required to attend Mount Carmel High School is not for everyone, but for those who stay the course and graduate, I believe most will be made better by the experience.

I am a parent of a current student and believe this school is wonderful. The academics are challenging, sports are amazing, diversity is excellent! It's truly a place where you see your son come in as a boy and leave as a man. I have seen great improvements in my son since his freshman year. As a parent who believes it takes a village to raise a child MC is definitley the place you would want to send your son. I know most of the reviews tried to focus on athletics, however this is coming from a parent whose son is a brain not an athlete!

Mount Carmel was an excellent time (Academically, Spiritually as well as Athletically) . Can't wait to send my son there.

I feel for the fee that is charged monthly, I believe that the acadamics of the school lag behind the preimere magnet schools located in Chicago. If you want your child to be a football star this is the place to be but if you want your child to be prepared for a college experience than I do not feel Mt. Carmel is the place to be.

I am currently a Freshman at Mt. Carmel, and I think that it is great. I run cross country, and am trying out for the baseball team. I will admit that I am not one of the best athletes on the team. I think that the person that said that if you are a great athlete the teachers will treat you great, is totally wrong because over the past trimester I have been at Mt. Carmel, every teacher has treated me equally. I mean it happens to every high school you go to if you are a quarterback, you will have a lot more attention than others. But at Mt. Carmel, no matter what race, religion, or color, we are treated all equally. That's what makes Mount Carmel so great.

If your son plays football or is some other kind of athletic star, he'll enjoy the treatment. But if not....two of my son's junior teachers did not know his name in October. There are some good teachers and some who simply do not teach. My son feels valued for who he is at his new school.

I wish to briefly express how it is more than simply a school/place that a student attends . . . Go there !? As a mt. Carmel alum it is important to touch on this concept of: 'go there'. Mt. Carmel is not a school (or place) to '. . .Go there', or to have 'went to'! but, it is a choice that becomes an experience, that grows into a way of life and fuses you to a living breathing community. A unique blend of family and institution that you are forever a part. We at mc believe that this occurs only at 64th & dante.

It does not surprise me that Mt. Carmel now has the most male applicants of any Catholic high school in the Chicago Archdiocese for 2007. Famed for Caravan football state championships and powerhouse athletic teams in most sports, as a parent, you are more impressed with the faculty and staff dedication to superior academic success among all students, turning boys into responsible young men. 95% of graduates go on to colleges such as Notre Dame, University of Chicago, Yale, Stanford, Harvard, and just about anywhere a student would imagine. The school has overcome a perception problem with location on the Southside of Chicago and aging facilities but has raised $20 million to update the campus in a gentrifying area just three blocks south of the University of Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry, and new terrific science, computer, and athletic facilities. Easily accessible by train, bus, and car.

An all over wonderful experience. Diversity, comradery, spiritual leadership, hard work, sportsmanship. A bond that lasts for years. A very special place, a place where young men are enouraged to be all they can be.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
