In addition to being a great academic school, it is family. My children enjoy school, their teachers and all the additional activities offered.

What an amazing gem in Portage Park! There are many public and private schools in this area to choose from, OLV rises above. When looking into schools, we wanted a structured academic program that was on the forefront and would teach our son skills he truly needed to excel in life. The STEM program meets and exceeds this need. In addition to this, OLV has many supplemental programs and classes. Band, Chess, Latin, Spanish and Karate just to name a few. As a working family having extra classes after school and an extended day program to 6 pm is so very much appreciated. As a parent there is such a sense of family with this group. The teachers and staff are so open and it is very easy to communicate any special needs you may have. Going to school in not a chore but a happy, safe educational environment. Tuition is in line with area schools. If you don t think you can afford expense of a private school, there are several scholarship opportunities available. OLV was slated to close early this year. Faculty, parents and alumni united fund raising the money needed to bridge the budget deficit. What a wonderful feeling of spirit and pride within this family. OLV is here to stay!

My daughter is thriving in the Pre-K program at OLV. At three, she could regocnize sight words and was ready learn some early reading skills. At OLV, we found an excellent principal and Pre-K teachers willing to provide the differentiated instruction that she needed. The positive energy and family atmosphere within the parish has been an added bonus. If you're exploring Pre-K options in the northwest side, OLV is a must see.

With three, three year olds, we were looking for a pre-k program that afforded us structure and routine, firmly rooted in an academic setting. OLV welcomed our dynamic triplet family into an environment where our kids are thriving socially, emotionally and academically. The STEM program extends their reach of comprehension beyond just facts.. they are learning about polarization of magnets, germination of seeds, Spanish and Latin and are hitting the benchmarks for the pre-reading program for kindergarten readiness. The teachers at OLV go the distance each and every day. There is a special place for them... They are invested and have a passion for seeing the sparkle and imagination come to life with our kids. With a significant addition of families to OLV in just the past school year, the school has an energy and commitment unmatched by others. We look forward to supporting and building a bigger OLV family for years to come! Proud to be an OLV family.

When I began my search for a school for my daughter in 2008 I went to various schools and attended open houses. I was not happy with what I had found but from the moment I entered OLV, I was hooked the staff were amazing and the children were so well behaved. In the 4 year old program I couldn t believe there were 20+ 4 year olds children in the room. I signed my daughter up to start classes the next school year and would never take her anywhere else. The school is like a home away from home for the students, the staff and parents are one big family working together to help develop and mold the most amazing children and young adults. The academics are unmatched and the extracurricular activities are phenomenal. We LOVE OLV!!!

Our daughter is now in Kindergarten and has been in the school since Prek-3. We are very happy with the school and how it has been changed since our principal Mrs. Hodge came on board. In the last 18 months the school has been implemented a STEM curriculum for all ages , updating technology and opening a lot of after school programs. We have double our enrollment in the last months because the principal and teachers are doing a great job. We are happy to be part of the OLV family.

We have two children enrolled at Our Lady of Victory (OLV) since 2006. The educational experience has been wonderful! Our girls have participated in hands-on science experiments and accelerated reading programs. The Science innovation lab, iPad and computer lab are favorites for the kids! Each classroom has iPads and an Apple TV or Whiteboard. The faculty is experienced and the teachers create a safe and enriching learning environment. The girls attend weekly all school mass where the classes take turns doing the readings and petitions. Monthly, the children participate in the Sunday mass. There is a wonderful band program and choir, as well as after school programs such as sports, chess, art and theater classes. The Girl and Boy Scout program is also very active. The community gets together for our Christmas Bazaar, Super bowl Sunday, St Patrick s Day Party, Vender Blender and many other activities. The OLV family is very welcoming and extends far outside of the school boundaries!

We are grandparents of 3 boys who attend OLV and know that they are receiving a top-notch education. We attend many of the functions and have experienced first-hand the warmth and caring of this wonderful school. The staff is amazing and again, our 3 grandchildren are receiving a quality education.

OLV has been a blessing for our children. Test scores are all the rage today; however, character development won't appear on test scores. OLV supplies our children with a rock solid education (with a darn good teacher to student ratio) AND provides a firm foundation for their character. In addition to OLV's S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) program, our children are involved in the following enrichment program. Chess, Latin, iPad lab, Spanish, Karate, Lego Club, Drawing Class and Eco Warriors. OLV is a financial sacrifice for parents, but I believes it's the best investment a family could make.

OLV is a great school that provides children with an excellent education that is now grounded in its Science, Technology, Engineering and Math program. It also excels, however, in providing children with a solid spiritual environment that is essential to the development of character and personality. The other really outstanding feature that families will find at OLV is its strong community which quickly provides a sense of family and belonging to those who are interested in sharing of themselves.

My son started school at OLV upon our moving to Chicago in 2010. Although there were some bumps in the road with the school itself in the beginning, we started developing a strong bond with the close-knit community. Something else I noticed immediately, OLV is a happy place. The kids and staff are always happy, positive and the kids are well-behaved and respectful. Once Mrs. Hodge became Principal, the school really began making positive moves. OLV is back on track, thanks to the leadership and dedication of Mrs. Hodge, the staff, and all of the parents. Mrs. Hodge has made (and continues to make) huge strides in advancing technology, committing to STEM programs, re-growing enrollment, and continually making OLV a great school for learning, faith, forming life-long friendships, and having fun. My son loves OLV! He loves science, is good at math and wants to be an engineer. He is involved in Cross Country and basketball (free!). He is challenged by his schoolwork and the teachers and principal are always available to meet whenever I have any questions. We are committed to the school and making it a great place for all children to learn, be safe, be happy, and be successful.

My husband and I have very high standards for what makes a great school, and OLV has surpassed even our standards. Our daughter is in Pre-K 4, and I love telling parents at other schools that even in preschool, she is taking Latin, Spanish, and computer class. On top of that, she has a weekly cooking class and science lab. It's not just the curriculum and teachers that make OLV extraordinary. Parents, teachers, and students genuinely love the school, it's contagious. There are two very active Parent groups. As for principal involvement, it's hard to say enough good things about the principal. It's clear she is completely dedicated to the school and continually improving it. We are really looking forward to enrolling our son there next year!

Our Lady of Victory has the warmest and welcoming environment that you could ever find. There is a sense of comfort that comes from all faculty staff, students and parents, from day one expect to be treated like an old friend not a new one. OLV has the principal that every parent wants presiding over their child's education. It is the foundation that sets them up for life. In eighteen months time she has brought modern progressive thinking, outstanding academic standards, and technology while increasing enrollment by unbelievable numbers. The teachers are outstanding as well, expect a kindergarten student to amaze you with all the hard work they do. They go into first grade well prepared and ready. This cycle repeats itself year after year. The teachers love and adore each and every one of their kids and the kids know it. They all work really hard to impress their teachers, and that is a great combination. I enrolled my son and daughter at OLV five years ago in kindergarten. I could best describe the results of their time at OLV so far by saying that they are happy, loving, responsible, smart, forgiving, athletic, faithful and very, very lucky!

Our Lady of Victory has phenomenal teachers, extremely active parents and a principal that brings a new meaning to forward thinking. Our student enrollment has increased by 88% in the last 18 months. Our graduates gain admission into top high schools. For kids requiring additional learning assistance, the school has special education teachers and title I support. My kids learn differently so the teaching staff take steps to ensure the curriculum and approach meets my kids where they are at so they progress forward easily and effectively. I highly recommend this school. Parents are actively involved in all aspects of educating your children. They are passionate about the quality of education as well as their social and spiritual well being. Check OLV out!!!!

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
