Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Do not send your child here. It is horrible. Staff is blind to everything they don't want to see. Punishments are either not given out or given in extreme. It is a pathetic school. All of the students hate it. Students are very mean. Some staff too. People who try and get you to come to this school make it sound great and that's what my son and I thought to. Until he was admitted. Multiple dorm fights verbal and physical and A LOT OF BULLYING. Don't take any of the admission staff seriously. They just want your money.

My daughter went to the O school when she was 9 and left when she was 18. The staff saved her life. Her father and I will always be ever so grateful to the staff. At the Orthogenic School my daughter was well educated.( She took courses at the University of Chicago high school.). My daughter is now a college graduate, and she owns her own knitting shop.

For a residential center of it's kind it's above average. The students are generally treated well, and more as kids than as patients. Many other schools maintain a much more clinical environment. The senior staff (Michelle, Pete, Diana) are mostly great. The educational program is good for a school of this type. There isn't enough evidence based therapy (I know many graduates that have benefited from DBT and CBT and wished it had been provided there rather than psychoanalytic style therapies), and the length of stay can be longer than necessary. It can be difficult for students to gain privileges. Many students graduate and are dealing with the same issues they arrived with- I know one graduate in a nursing home for a mental illness, another that is homeless, and another that is in and out of treatment centers constantly. I also know some that have succeeded in college or gone on to careers. Like most RTC's the outcomes aren't great, but if your child must be in a long term facility then this is pretty much as good as it gets. Just don't expect a cure, and know that statistically kids do better if RTC's are avoided entirely.

The 'O' School is a school for children and adolescents with behavioral and psychological difficulties. Students are mostly residential with two counselers in each dorm room, regular administrative and counseling staff, as well as nursing. The school is well organized, well run, and also affiliated with the U of Chicago.
