Some good teachers but lacking in leadership. The school does have high expectations for the students, the leadership is slow to make changes, morale or personnel is low and students are leaving for other school options.
I really appreciate the genuine concern the teachers have for the students here. All 4 of my children attended the preschool program and were reading before entering kindergarten. The teacher:student ratio is such that individual attention can be afforded. The instruction provides the support needed to make progress and find strengths and weaknesses to work on. The atmosphere is very loving and respectful. I always feel welcomed and at home here. We have been greatly blessed through this school and I am so happy my friends told me about this school.
I have been surprisingly impressed with each of the teachers at the school, and especially the principal and other leaders of the school. Every year brings creative curriculum improvements that help the students get ahead and that help them build confidence that they can accomplish difficult things. Finally, I have found a lovely community there. I appreciate the ways that the staff support each other. They also work with me regularly to see that I am adequately supported as a parent. They care about your struggles, they care about your children.
Children of Peace Pre-K through 8th grade located on Taylor Street in the Little Italy/ University Village neighborhood is AMAZING. The students represent the makeup of Chicago. Most schools say they are diverse but this one actually delivers. I don t think you could meet a more passionate set of teachers and administration in Chicago. The school actually has outdoor green space and appears to be dropped in the middle of the medical schools and hospitals. In fact, the school s science lab was built by RUSH hospital. Many people in the medical profession have their children attend Children of Peace. It is a nice private education with small class sizes. It starts with pre-school. You can opt for Montessori or the traditional pre-school at 3 years of age. One of the coolest features of Children of Peace is that it has a deaf and hard of hearing program in one of their buildings. Children of Peace School has an old school vibe but laced with the latest technology. If you don t want to worry about your child being lost in a sea of children this is the school for you.
My child attends the school since kindergarten she is now a 3rd grader and I most say that the school is more than excellent and that every year I see different improvements to make it the best... I wish more parents would take the time to be more involve with there kids education and participate in the improvement of the school but just because it is private it does not make things perfect... kids that graduate from this school have proven to do well in high school and there for in college this is the best first step that you could give your child. Children Of Peace School is the foundation for a bright future in my opinion...
This school has been wonderful for my children. The faculty and administration are extremely caring, nurturing and understanding of all children and families. The focus on academics is very good. The students are supportive of each other. My daughter and son have been attending this school for 3 years.
Something very odd going on at this school. Firing lots of great teachers, keeping others who are mediocre and unqualified. Lots of new "fees" involved, although they are keeping tuition stable. Doesn't seem to be much quality interaction between teachers and administration right now.
Children of Peace shouldn't really have a rating because it doesn't desire one. As a parent, I frequently walk through the school and see, hear, and listen to the teaching staff berating the students for simply being kids. The administration spents more time worrying about the physical plant of the building than how her teachers are interacting with their students.
This school is indeed excellent. Each of my child's teachers have been instrumental in the development of her spiritual, academic, psychological, social and physiological development.
Our daughter attended the preschool and Kindergarten here and the education is really great! The teachers care a lot about the children, and the rigorous curriculum enabled our daughter and many other children in the class to achieve high scores on the GEAP school test. We couldn't be happier with our decision to send her here.
