My children attended from preschool into elementary. I think the preschool is fine but the elementary is lacking. After wonderful reviews in preschool, my children got into elementary and the struggles began. We would have meetings on what to do and the follow through was weak at best. We were constantly told we needed tutors which became expensive especially considering we were already paying for private school. I wouldn't recommend for elementary.
We joined RPMS last year in mid stream for Montessori and my daughter will be entering 1st grade next year. We have found the staff to be absolutely the best and she loves her teachers and the classrooms. We have made some incredible friends at the school both from the teacher side and and the parents. You will not meet a more committed team who really cares about the kids and growing them. Once you meet the kids who have gone through the program and gotten into the best schools in Chicago you will see why I recommend this school so highly. Of course my daughter is having a great time as well and her best friends are her classmates.
We have been at this school for years and all our children attend. We are consistently surprised by not only the academic level at which our children are working but also their social skills. We've recommended this school to everyone we meet.
This is a fantastic school. The parents are involved, the teachers patient, caring and smart, and the facility is fantastic. The student body is thoughtful, articulate and caring. And the academics rock (once you get used to the less traditional format, which can be unnerving for some, it was for me). My children LOVED it -- they were so proud of the 'work' they did every day. The parent community is very nice, smart and friendly -- it is not the place to go if you aren't excited to be involved and participate.
This is a Great School! Our child has been there since Kindergarten and is about to enter the 4th Grade. Teachers are Caring, highly trained, and always there for private consult or extra attention when needed. Administration seems to know every child and their background. info , We are blessed to have been there for all these years! Also national Test Scores in the 95th and 99th percentiles!
I am in 7th grade at RPMS and am quite surprised by all of the negative comments. The ones that say that we lack in parent involvement are completely off. Parents are almost constantly present at the school and involved in projects. I was also particularly surprised by the reviews saying that we the school doesn't have a good elementary. Not only do we do well in class, we have a voice in what we learn which means that we are interested in what we are learning in school. I happen to know that all of the 7th graders got in the high 90's (scored out of 99, and the score meaning that the student scored higher than that that percent of students his or her age that took the test) on the IOWA standardized tests.
Excellent school with wonderful staff who's strenghts lie in their ability to individualize instruction while adhering to a true Montessori model. My children have blossomed at this school. It is a warm and caring community. We tried other schools and were sorely disappointed. If you are looking for a school that will nurture your child's development from an academic, emotional and social perspective RPMS is the place to go. A very well rounded education from preschool through grade school.
I loved this school, and though it seemed very easy compared to public school, the transfer was surprisingly easy and the methods of hands-on learning when I was younger helped me understand more when I was forced into textbook learning. I must say from a first person point of view, it was amazing.
MEDIOCRE. the early childhood program was nice, but grade school is underwhelming, esp. given tuition. Leadership and governance was already weak and poor, (note early posts). Mismanagement and recent missteps further impaired leadership's ability to run a school. There are much better alternatives, (incl. public schools).
Excellent school, model Montessori classrooms. Low student staff ratio allows teachers to individualize instruction to suit each child. The teachers we have encountered are outstanding, I could not ask for a better environment for my children. Parent participation strongly encouraged. RPMS is warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for families interested in their child's education.
Great school, professional teaching staff and principal. They are nurturing, know all of the kids and the school if very family centered. They hit a rough patch because more and more families are wanting to stay for elementary now (not just for preschool) and they don't have room for everyone that wants to stay.
Agree with previous post---the new building is lovely and the early childhood classes are nice. But for those seeking a well-developed montessori program, this is no Near North. Administration and leadership seem to not have a handle on growth. There also is a grave disconnect between the montessori philosophy of inclusiveness and actions recently taken---a very disingenuous group.
Nice school for pre-k-aged children and beautiful building. Beyond that not a strong academic environment as demonstrated by the micro sizes of the upper-classes. (this is not by design.) Administration is also quite lackluster and not interested in long-term education of child.
Very inexperienced teachers and an administration more focused on your $$ than your child. What does $10K get you? A nice looking building, not much else. Avoid this school for elementary.
This school served my children well, both teenagers now. They both attended through 6th grade and are confident, smart and caring children. Class size is a lot smaller here than you will find at other montessori schools in the city - as many as 6-10 fewer children per class.
This school cannot attend to children who are exceptionally bright. This school, since it has grown and gotten anew building is only in it for the money.
Not the school where you find community values or diversity among the student body and families.
I have children in school now and some that have moved on to high school. The Montessori philosophy here is strong and the staff is child focused. Each child I have encountered has been educated as a 'whole child' and at very specfic levels, regardless of 'norms'. My children have gone on to much success that I attribute to the wonderful, supportive community they spent their first 12 years in.
What I thought was a caring, collaborative community is not. Extremely disappointed.
Great teachers in preschool, however, lack of leadership, organization and, DIVERSITY.
