very good school, my child just arrived from peru and the help from teachers and students is great. allot of help from teachers. my child is improving in English learning and involved in activities. music and other programs. is very good but I think that we should settle for less but expect more for our children.
i graduated NWM in 2009, i was accepted into Northside college prep, and that is where i will be attending high school this fall, the school overall is decent, although the security guards are over stalking students every chance they get. like it has been said, there are some kids who make it bad, and those who choose to do their work and follow rules will succeed anywhere.
I'm a former student from this school and I graduated in 2009. This school is absolutely great indeed. Teachers really care for the students success and students are improving. This year one student got accepted at Northside Prep high school and many went to lane tech.
im am as a matter of fact a student at northwest middle. i am in the 8th grade. i think that it is a great school. all the teachers help us achieve great tings and want the best for us. i have been told that the school is not bad its some of the students that make it bad. and if you did not like teaching there then you should have just quit at the begining. no one told you to stay. i love northwest middle and if you dont then thats on you!!! Go Panthers!!!!!
Teaching at Northwest Middle has discouraged me from continuing my career as a teacher. The lack of parental support has not surprised me as much of that of the administration's. The school needs to refocus and adjust their priorities. Unfortunately with a new principal charge, students roam the halls and harass students as well as teachers and nothing is done to stop them. I ask myself, how can I teach under such tormentive conditions, better yet, how can my students achieve and be prepared for the real world? Northwest Middle has potential, but what good does it do us if administration is always quarraling among themselves. Set an example for goodness sakes!
I am a former student in North West Middle School. The reviewers here are all wrong. first of all every child in the country shows negative attitude to adults in school. Why? They dont like school as simple as that, the environment isn't very welcoming but look at this 6th graders aren't welcomed as a freshman isn't welcome so what is the diffrence? Everyone has had their spot in 6th grade everyone goes through it. When you are a new student you surely will be welcomed into the school by classmates. It is welcoming to only Hispanic and African-American because thats the majority around this neighborhood we shouldn't blame them though. This school is just an average school with average problems. Thank You.
I have taught at the school for two years as I write this review. Fortunately the school administration changed in 2004 and the school is a much more positive place to be. More teaching and learning is going on this year because everyone seems to be on the same team which is a big change compared to last year. Things at Northwest Middle are looking up.
I actually worked within this school for a few years and was continually dissapointed with the quality of education and the negative environment in the school. There are, of course a handful of good teachers, however, the halls a littered with adults yelling at students and treating them in very negative ways. The thought that came to mind on a daily basis was... if you do not show the students any respect or dignity, why would they give it back? These students can be rough and many do have problems with respecting adults, I do feel that the school administration including the principal are going about meeting this need in the wrong way. It is a very hostile and non-welcoming environment, which comes out in the testing scores- did you see how low they are? If you don't encourage the students' strengths and potential how will they ever become successful?
