Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I love Jane Addams High School because my son is actually excited to go to school now and really learns there. I just love this school. The principal and staff have great team work.

This school keeps kids on track. They are very disciplined and the teachers communicate well with students and parents. My son has done very well at Jane Addams and has kept him out of trouble. He went to Kelly, Juarez and Rudy Lozano high schools before he went to Jane Addams and none of those schools compare to Jane Addams High School.

With the strict rules of Jane Addams I quickly grew a dislike for the school. But they really pushed me to do more with myself than I ever thought I would or could. I am a recent graduate and will use everything I learned at this school to continue to go on through college and life owning my obstacles. Thank you Jane Addams for bringing back hope in my life!

I like Jane Addams is because it s a small school and the teachers are cool to talk to and so are the staff. All you have to do is all your work in class and all your homework. Other students act like this school is hard and think the rules are crazy but in my opinion Jane Addams is the only reason we are graduating and actually going to make it in life.

The staff in JAHS is cool; they are straight forward with you and know when to joke around but not failing classes and being at school on time is their top priority.

From the 3 High Schools I ve attended, Jane Addams is where I experienced most of my growth as a person. Jane Addams helped me grow as a person in the fact that it helped me overcome the fears of going into college by giving the opportunity to attend college, a year early. I feel as though Jane Addams really gave me that extra push that I needed.

I appreciated the help that I have gotten from JAHS. I can tell the principal Ms. Comparini really cares about her school by how tough they are on us. I like it though, because they put the students in check, so then they will not be distracted, and can pay attention to what they have to do. The teachers are a big help to, if it was not for Mrs. McDonald I probably would not have been able to complete everything I have. She is constantly pushing everyone forward, and to improve. That is how a lot of the teachers are here.

Jane Addams High School provided me with an atmosphere which allowed me to go from a girl to a young woman. The academic aspect of JAHS has given me a better understanding of things that I will be using in college and my future, and some things that I will probably never come across in my following years. I know that my experience at Jane Addams will never be forgotten, and served as a path to success in the future.

Jane Addams has shaped my daughter into the person she is now. It is nearly impossible to sum up all the obstacles she had to overcome to get to where she is at. Through many laughs, tears and ups and downs, she finally learned how to be determined, focused, and independent and I have to thank Jane Addams for all this.

Jane Addams has taught me a lot. This is where I learned to mature and be responsible. Education wise I learned a lot, I have the best of grades I ever had. My last report card I got all "A's" and one "B", and I owe it all to my teachers for helping me understand topics and ideas I have always struggled with.

JAHS taught me to never give up on something when you re so close to it and not to let people drag you down. I m finally going to get my high school diploma. From Jane Addams High School. I never thought this would happen. I can be proud of myself and say I went to hell and back and I still managed to graduate high school. At my prior schools my mind-set was so messed up I just didn t care and neither did the teachers. But at JAHS they didn t let me give up on me when I was going to give up on myself. They are going above and beyond to help me.

Before Jane Addams I went to a military school. I wasn t the best student. I am now at the school that I know I was meant to be at. Jane Addams High School. I entered Jane Addams with my head held high a big heart. I was focused and my goal was to finish high school on a positive note. I literally became a new student. Not physically but mentally. My grades became A s and B s and I attended school every day and on time. The teachers were very friendly and helpful. They took things slow so I could catch up with everyone else in the class. I was able to achieve that because of the help I got from teachers and the school. Jane Addams has taught me how to be responsible and be patient with things that are needed. My teachers helped me with math skills that I actually use in my everyday life.

I was successful in JAHS because I had teachers and staff that met one on one with me and pointed out what had to be done or I wasn't going to succeed. They helped me define my plan to graduate and pointed out the choices available to me. I never felt the support at my other high school, like I did at JAHS. I am grateful I got a second chance at JAHS if not I would of probably be just another kid on the streets. JAHS has given me the motivation I needed to finish high school.

JAHS extended their hand out to me and my daughter. My daughter has accomplished a lot since she has been here. She did much better here than at her other school. This is a phenomenal school. I would highly HIGHLY recommend any parent looking for a high school to choose Jane Addams High School.

When I started at Jane Addams, the students there were very friendly, the staff was helpful, and the rules were strict, but I felt like that s what I needed since I wanted to do well in school. Jane Addams was an entirely new and different experience for me. JAHS has really changed my perception on education. Before, it was all fun and games, but now, it s all about being on task and putting effort into your work. My goals are to graduate from JAHS and get my high school diploma. Being absent, tardy, or even ditching school is not a problem for me anymore. This school fixed that and also fixed the way I do things. I don t do things just to do them, and I also think of the consequences and the outcome of my decisions. This is why I would love to thank every single staff member at this school and all the people that supported me.

The memories I had at Jane Addams well let me start out by saying there is a wonderful teacher names Ms. McDonald. She continuously watches out for me and encourages me to do well in school. Jane Addams High School has wonderful teachers who truly care for you. Becoming a student at Jane Addams has made me realize that there is more to life. The principal, Ms Comparini, keeps us on our toes. There are many rules here at Jane Addams; I now understand that they are for our own good. They are in place to help us learn to achieve our goals. However, our principal also makes time for fun. Jane Addams has taught me to be a more responsible person. I will never forget my years as a student at Jane Addams High School.

At Tilden I really never learned much because everyone just came to school to do nothing. Tilden was never strict; basically the students ran the school. Jane Addams has changed my perspective on Chicago High Schools and given me a better chance for my future. JAHS expects to do everything on your own so if you don t want to go to detention it s your responsibility to do what you have to do. Missing work is your responsibility to get on your own and if you don t it s your grade that is going to drop. The school motto, OWN IT, further instills the idea that you are truly the only person who owns your future.

Jane Addams has made me successful thanks to the teachers. Some of the teachers have made an impact on my education. For example, I have always disliked history. It has been my least favorite subject since day one. This year I was lucky to have a teacher like Ms. Kijek. She has been my only history teacher to get and keep my attention on the subject. I have learned so much here at Jane Addams High school. Jane Addams helped me complete high school.

Jane Addams had given me a second chance and I believe that I was successful at Jane Addams and not at my other school because I learned from my own mistakes. Sometimes people need to learn the hard way. At Jane Addams I learned a few things about myself. I learned to not rely on my friends. I learned that the only person that will suffer from my mistakes is me. I also learned that giving up is not an option. I will apply what I have learned at Jane Addams in my life by always referring back to my academics and keeping the words of wisdom from my teachers in the back of my head when I am down and giving up.

Coming to Jane Addams I have learned that Public High school just give out grades and don t grade you on your grade level. I was successful at Jane Addams and not Hyde Park or James H. Bowen because I was receiving A s and B s thinking I was very smart and didn t even realize I was wasn t even reading or doing math on a high school grade level. Jane Addams helped me get to where I need to be with my reading and math.

Going to JAHS has given me a second opportunity to finish high school. Here at JAHS teachers and staff teach you how to grow as student. They also teach you how to prepare yourself for the future and future obstacles in life. After coming to JAHS I have learned that in life there are second opportunities to actually become someone. If I wouldn t have came across JAHS who knows where I would be today: maybe working a minimum wage job ten hours every day or maybe doing nothing at all. Now I have the opportunity in life to get out into the world and not being afraid of getting put down.

In my year of attending Jane Addams, I have been very successful. The things that contributed to my success were my family, my principal, teachers and me just personally wanting to succeed in my heart. I have learned so much in so little time at Jane Addams like learning what it means and how to be self sufficient and responsible. This school just molds you into the individual you thought you never could be. That s what I absolutely love about it. I was much more successful at Jane Addams than I was at Curie High school because the teachers here actually care. The experiences were a huge difference. I will apply everything that I have learned at Jane Addams to my everyday life. This school has changed me mentally. I view life a totally different way now and I give thanks to JAHS.

Jane Addams changed me completely. When I arrived here I was a little boy looking to grow into a man. I was taught that choices make you a man, but being here in Jane Addams taught me that responsibility makes you a man. My short experience in this high school has changed my entire outlook on life. Being here inspired me to become something other than a statistic. The teachers and the staff never treated me as a student, in Jane Addams we are all like a family. Just like a family they have instilled morals and values in to me and every other student and that s what makes Jane Addams such a great school. Upon my graduation from Jane Addams I will be enlisting into the United Stated Air Force. Being here taught me that I m held responsible for my actions and my parent can t save me. Being in Jane Addams made me into an adult and I will forever be thankful for the lesson s my principal and administration has taught me.

My freshman year I attended UIC College Prep. Once I left UICCP, I started my sophomore year at Banner South. Banner was easy. Just showing up and writing your name on a sheet paper, you re passing. I started at JAHS in January 2013. I m not going to sugar coat this. I hated everything about this school. I didn t want to come at all. There was nothing that was going to keep me here. I still had the thirst to fight anyone and everyone. I had planned on calling people up here to fight, but if I did that I would ve got kicked out of my third school. This year, a miracle happened. I evaluated my life and where I wanted to go. I need to finish school. I need to stop being angry. I have setbacks, but with getting some good friends here at school, life here isn t as bad. Mr. Duszynski is cool with me, even though I enjoy making him crazy. He makes my eye twitch sometimes because he be doin too much. Jane Addams taught me to get my work done, and to think before I react. The teachers have all been interested in me, and my future. Even though sometimes they get on my nerves. I enjoyed it, and I laughed. Most importantly, I learned.

The skills I have acquired at JAHS will aid me in the various future situations that I will be challenged with. The skills that I have acquired and improved on at JAHS are critical thinking, self-sufficiency, responsibility, and came to an understanding of the meaning of hard work. The things I ve accomplished at JAHS will help me in the future because when I m in a bad situation I will be able to reflect upon my past experiences and with the skills I have gained at JAHS, I will be able to resolve any given disputes and predicaments. Furthermore, my experiences at JAHS will aid me to effectively tackle on any obstacles I might face during my college experience. I plan to become a cosmetologist after I graduate. In turn, all of the things I ve learned at Jane Addams will pay off in the future.

Coming to JAHS has made me better and also gave me better opportunities; they actually stayed on top of me about my grades. They are really strict, but only because they want us to get further then just high school. I learned that no matter what age you are, it s never too late to get your diploma. I was successful in JAHS because they actually cared, the teachers would persuade you to stay afterschool. They were willing to give you their undivided attention and helping you out.

Coming to Jane Addams was one of the greatest things I could have done in my life. This school in particular was no joke for me. They not only mastered in teaching the students how to be self-sufficient, personally responsible, and use critical thinking skills, but they excelled in helping the students achieve their mastery reading and math levels. These things are beneficial because they will develop me into a professional adult and I can apply them to my future work setting. The fact that the teachers never gave up on the students, unlike Paul Robeson High School, is what made me successful at JAHS. I ve learned that I am a great achiever and can do anything if I work hard at it. Though it was tough, they encouraged the students and stayed on our backs about graduation requirements. I am grateful to have had a wonderful experience at Jane Addams that not only made me a better person, but well-prepared me for my future. With the help of the teachers, staff, and Ms.Comparini, I will be graduating on time with straight A s and a 4.0 GPA. After high school, I plan on going off to college, hopefully Birmingham Southern College, to major in Environmental Engineering.

Throughout my years in school I have learned a lot, but even though I have spent the least time here at Jane Addams, I think here is where I have learned the most. At Curie I did learn small things, some of which I knew but the rest I just never ended up understanding, and so didn t actually learn anything. Here at Jane Addams I was able to comprehend more and learn a lot, mostly in writing and English, which was a subject that I was never able to learn or pass. I appreciate all of the JAHS staff because they gave me the chance to complete my degree. At first I was surprised because it s like a totally different world at JAHS. It s not like a traditional high school that I was in before. The small classes at Jane Addams help students to express themselves more. Students here find their own way to lead better lives. In Pathways class we are able to explore career opportunities. Students at JAHS have their own thoughts, and they act the way that they like; they are allowed to express themselves and their needs at JAHS. Teachers listen to what the students want and help them to achieve their goals in a better way than my other high schools did. At JAHS I started to understand that there is no real definition of good or bad because people at JAHS show me that we are all different and special in our own way.

They have helped me achieve what I couldn't do on my own and made me grow up ALOT. I know so much more in every subject than I ever hve. Great environment. There is no struggle unless you make it a struggle. If you do what you are suppoed to do, you will have no problems. The person who wrote that the princpal doesn't care is just a liar. I know this sounds wierd but I like jane adams because it is strict and I have learned to come to school "on time". Coming from a school that didn't care about my education, my math skills have gone up so much now and I know so much more math than I did before. Staff are not there for just a job. You can tell that they really care about us. Before I came here I didn't think I could learn, but now I know I can. I like this school because my son has improved so much since attending here. When he was in CPS his reading scores were very low and still being passed in his classes. Since starting at JAHS his reading scores have gone up 5 grade levels in just 1.5 years attendance.

I graduated about a year ago from Jane Addams High School. I am now in the U.S. Army which is something I always wanted to do and this school helped me accomplish my dream. I think its a great school because it gives students a second chance and the teachers care more than any other teachers that I have had in the past. Jane Addams helped me turn my life around. The principal is pretty cool too. ~Scouts Out!

This is my first year at this school and it has helped me a lot when I was facing many hardships. The teachers teach in many different ways which has opened my eyes to many new things. I have experienced and learned about many things I never knew about. I feel very close to my teachers and I really trust them.

Jane Addams has helped me so much over the past 3 years. They have helped me prepare for my future. I like it so much better than my old school in Cicero. The staff shows us compassion and the class sizes are small. They help everyone learn, but what I like the most is that Ms. Marquette and Ms. Comparini gave me another chance.

I love JAHS because the classes are small which makes it easier to learn. The teachers bond with the students. I love the teachers and the staff, they make learning fun. I have been exposed to many opportunities and made great friends.

I love this school because they are strict for all the right reasons. This school keeps me on point and motivated. I get along very well with the staff and students and that means a lot.

The parent review right below this one is spot on!! The admin are highly unprofessional and treat their employes, teachers, and students with NO RESPECT. Their turnover for this last school year is more than 50% of their teaching staff...which is super high for a small school. No open door policy for the principal and you can forget about admin following the mission of critical thinking, personal responsibility, and self-sufficiency. Great teachers are running from this school and you should be aware of this when entering your child in this school.

Jane Addams is a great school with excellent teachers and staff. I used to take the Halsted bus and pass UIC everyday on my way to Jane Addams HS. I did not graduate from Jane Addams; however, I did attain a GED -- ONLY because I was too far behind and did not want to waste anymore time. I had nearly no credits -- BUT that is just ME. YOU can graduate from here, and should do so. They did allow me to take the Constitution test with the other students -- which saved me considerable time when taking the GED. After earning a GED, graduating from Wilbur Wright Community College with an A.A degree w/honors -- I now go to UIC and am 4 semesters shy of my Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree. I also plan to go to law school and practice law -- of course -- in Chicago. Jane Addams is a fantastic high school with caring people who work there. I recommend this school to anyone who is sincere about having a positive future and doing what is necessary to further their education (studying, doing homework, working hard, etc). The people who work at Jane Addams give their all and truly care for the students. It is a great high school, and my only regret is not graduating from there.

I graduated from here 2 years ago and I still keep in contact with the people who work there. Even though I am not a student there anymore, I can always call or emil Ms. Comparini for advice. She is cool, smart and really cares about the students.
