Best... School.....Ever. Finally a school that teaches respect and responsibility. I can never thank them enough. I know my son put them through alot, but the positive changes my son made there make me forever grateful.

My son has accomplished more at Jane Addams in one year than he had accomplished in 3 years at Chicago Bulls College Prep! I am ecstatic he is at this school. This school motivated him like I have never seen him. Jane Addams is the best thing that happened to me and my son!

Jane Addams has helped me become responsible and organized. I became a different person here because Jane Addams has assisted me in changing my bad habits. Now I do all my work and come to school on time. Jane Addams is a great school and if you can get in, you should.

I was successful in JAHS because I had teachers and staff that met one on one with me and pointed out what had to be done or I wasn't going to succeed. They helped me define my plan to graduate and pointed out the choices available to me. I never felt the support at my other high school, like I did at JAHS. I am grateful I got a second chance at JAHS if not I would of probably be just another kid on the streets. JAHS has given me the motivation I needed to finish high school.

JAHS extended their hand out to me and my daughter. My daughter has accomplished a lot since she has been here. She did much better here than at her other school. This is a phenomenal school. The register, principal, attendance person just opened their hearts to me and my daughter and I appreciate them. I would highly HIGHLY recommend any parent looking for a high school to choose Jane Addams High School.

This school sticks to the rules. They are strict but really care about the students. My son has only attended a short time, but I already see a difference in him. I am so grateful and overwhelmed in a good way that I was able to get him out of Noble and into Jane Addams.

I love Jane Addams because the staff really works with my grand daughter. Every time I go there they greet me with open arms and it's always a positive environment vibe. I have seen her become more productive and she has become more responsible since attending Jane Addams.

At Jane Addams High School, I have become an overall better student like I had planned and hoped to be. Before Jane Addams, I wouldn t do my work in class and now I make sure all my assignments are turned in. My grades are better than ever and my GPA has increased.

When I started at Jane Addams, the students there were very friendly, the staff was helpful, and the rules were strict, but I felt like that s what I needed since I wanted to do well in school. Jane Addams was an entirely new and different experience for me. JAHS has really changed my perception on education. Before, it was all fun and games, but now, it s all about being on task and putting effort into your work. My goals are to graduate from JAHS and get my high school diploma. Being absent, tardy, or even ditching school is not a problem for me anymore. This school fixed that and also fixed the way I do things. I don t do things just to do them, and I also think of the consequences and the outcome of my decisions. This is why I would love to thank every single staff member at this school and all the people that supported me.

The memories I had at Jane Addams well let me start out by saying there is a wonderful teacher names Ms. McDonald. She continuously watches out for me and encourages me to do well in school. Jane Addams High School has wonderful teachers who truly care for you. Becoming a student at Jane Addams has made me realize that there is more to life. The principal, Ms Comparini, keeps us on our toes. There are many rules here at Jane Addams; I now understand that they are for our own good. They are in place to help us learn to achieve our goals. However, our principal also makes time for fun. Jane Addams has taught me to be a more responsible person. I will never forget my years as a student at Jane Addams High School.

At Tilden I really never learned much because everyone just came to school to do nothing. Tilden was never strict; basically the students ran the school. Jane Addams has changed my perspective on Chicago High Schools and given me a better chance for my future. JAHS expects to do everything on your own so if you don t want to go to detention it s your responsibility to do what you have to do. Missing work is your responsibility to get on your own and if you don t it s your grade that is going to drop. The school motto, OWN IT, further instills the idea that you are truly the only person who owns your future.

Jane Addams has made me successful thanks to the teachers. Some of the teachers have made an impact on my education. For example, I have always disliked history. It has been my least favorite subject since day one. This year I was lucky to have a teacher like Ms. Kijek. She has been my only history teacher to get and keep my attention on the subject. I have learned so much here at Jane Addams High school. Jane Addams helped me complete high school.

Junior year I had to transfer schools. This happened because I felt the school I was at was not organized enough for me as an individual. I transferred to JAHS, and I fell in love with it. The people at JAHS know what they were doing.

Jane Addams had given me a second chance and I believe that I was successful at Jane Addams and not at my other school because I learned from my own mistakes. Sometimes people need to learn the hard way. At Jane Addams I learned a few things about myself. I learned to not rely on my friends. I learned that the only person that will suffer from my mistakes is me. I also learned that giving up is not an option. I will apply what I have learned at Jane Addams in my life by always referring back to my academics and keeping the words of wisdom from my teachers in the back of my head when I am down and giving up.

Coming to Jane Addams I have learned that Public High school just give out grades and don t grade you on your grade level. I was successful at Jane Addams and not Hyde Park or James H. Bowen because I was receiving A s and B s thinking I was very smart and didn t even realize I was wasn t even reading or doing math on a high school grade level. Jane Addams helped me get to where I need to be with my reading and math.

My daughter attended this school several years ago and now my son goes there now. The teachers are all different than before but they are fantastic. The other teachers were really good, but the new ones are even better!!! Hats off to a well run school.

Going to JAHS has given me a second opportunity to finish high school. Here at JAHS teachers and staff teach you how to grow as student. They also teach you how to prepare yourself for the future and future obstacles in life. After coming to JAHS I have learned that in life there are second opportunities to actually become someone. If I wouldn t have came across JAHS who knows where I would be today: maybe working a minimum wage job ten hours every day or maybe doing nothing at all. Now I have the opportunity in life to get out into the world and not being afraid of getting put down.

When I came to Jane Adams I felt like I had a do-over in high school. I was glad that I've heard about this school and that I will get a chance to graduate on time. I knew I had to get my act together and leave all my bad habits behind. I had a chance to start all over and I wasn t going to mess it up. In Jane Adams I ve learned that discipline is applied to make students act like young adults.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
