I live aceoss the street from this "school", and can't think of one positive thing about it. The school is at the very bottom of the scholastic standing of public schools even here in Chicago. The students are rude, and I'm very tired of cleaning up the trash they leave strewn across the neighborhood. My next door neighbors drive their daughter several miles each day so she doesn't have to attend this school. I can only believe that the administration, the teachers, and the parents are all failures in instilling values in these kids that would teach them how to be productive citizens.

nice state of the art building but bad principal.students come from low income areas!this principal is very picky on works at this prep school!

My daughter and son attended school here and have graduated. I can see how I was totaly misled by our schools now. My children did not get prepared for a life after high schools. I've had to hire a tutor just so my son could take his college admissions exams. There is no academic rigor at NGHS.

I'm a North-Grand senior class of 2009, the second graduating class of the school. My experience in programs and learning has been challenging. In North-Grand I have accomplished subjects and complex problems that I thought I couldn't complete. I accept that there are few undesirable complications. The school is in a very difficult adapting environment to various students. The school offers extracurricular activities frequently. The sports help restrain violence against NGHS students whether they are freshman, sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Assistance is given through-out the school year, the guilt is that some students refuse to ask for assistance or accept it. Yes, people including myself dislike the school polo shirts and does not offer enough extracurricular activities, that does not mean the school is lame. The school has assisted me when I have needed it. Why? because I ask. It is not hard to ask for help and it shouldn't be.

My daughter use to go to North Grand, she was having difficulties with reading and needed extra help, my daughter felt as if the teachers treated her like she was stupid, so in turn she became demotivated, disconnected, fell further behind and started to miss days, she could not deal with having a learning disability and the teachers making her feel as if she was an idiot, embarassing her in the class.

I just graduated from NGHS this past year 2008, and I really loved my 4 years there. Yes there were some things I didnt like about then school, like the uniform. I mean I did like it, though I just wished there were more different color polos. And as for sports, I wish there were more sports, but I really appreciate the sports that they already have, but other than that, I loved everything else, the teacher are GREAT! til this day I still keep in touch with some of them and they are still giving me great advices, the school, well thats a beautiful building, and the classes, well I really did like the average class size because they werent that big, so it made it easier for students to concentrate on their work...I am really proud to say that I graduated from North-Grand High School

I like North Grand H.S. Its pretty good for a public school and surprised me when my grandson entered as a Freshman and is now a Junior. He's in accelerated classes and doing well...I'm proud of that (I expected it of him). He didn't let me down. I taught him to read and write when he was 3 years old. I knew he 'had it'! Now his sister is a Freshman there and likes NG too. Keep up the great work with your students.

Well North-grand High school is very nice & wonderful school when it comes to learning and the atmospher, but the thing with this school is that the students dont have any say so it what goes on in the school. the uniforms are great but they should have atleast diffrent colors. I understand that the principal is just trying to keep gang related to a minimum but many students are complaning. as for the sports thats crazy that the freshmen cant play I think that completly unfair many students come to school looking forward to playing their favorit sports but they cant for what reason i dont know. its time that the students have some say so in what goes on in there school

I am a senior at NGHS, we will be the first graduating class at NGHS! The school does not offer as much sports or extracurricular activities such as Lane Tech or Whitney Young but some thing that NGHS has that other schools do not have is the family like environment and teacher to student relationship. The only flaw that I find is in the sports policy, which states that freshmen can not play sports their first year. I find that sports keeps students off the streets and gives them a sense of accomplishment. But other than the sports policy I find NGHS to be a great school where students will grow and become leaders of tomorrow!

If you are a part ofthe Hermosa neighborhood, you will get accepted into this school. NGHS is a neighborhood school. You can participate in sports if you are not failing your classes. This school offers a few great programs that do stand out. However, compared to other schools, they don't have a lot of programs. For ex, other schools might offer, French, Italian, but this school only offers Spanish at the moment. This school really pays extra attention to the kids who speak no english or, little english. Sometimes it takes away learning time from those students who do speak English and actually do cherish being taught and learning. When it comes to the building, this school is deffinately up there. Many schools in Chicago aren't in very good condition, but this school is.

This school is an excellent school. In order to attend the school the student must have at least all A's and B's. Students can only participate in sports if they have all A's. Uniform is required in attendance. The unifrom colors are maroon and any choice color pants except jeans.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Illinois used the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) to test students in grade 11 in reading, math and science.
