Decent school; just very overcrowded. Parents are very involved. Wish they would remodel those mobile units though

We have been at Byrne for 6 years now and it's not perfect, so don't go there expecting miracles. You can expect a principal that will listen and who genuinely cares about the kids and goes out of his way to make it the best school he can with the resources he is allotted. You can expect mostly good teachers. It is a fact of life that you wont have the best teacher in the school every year. But even the teachers without the best methods to reach my child were still strong teaching the basic academics and would listen to my concerns and make an honest effort to try. You can expect an overcrowded building with some kids eating lunch in the hallways or their classroom. This problem might be alleviated with the longer school day, but it's not the end of the world. There are parents who are very involved and genuinely want to make the school better and parents that are only good at complaining. This is common at all schools and if you are considering sending your child here please try to be one who wants to help. Overall, I have been very happy to have my child here. She has learned and grown well.

The teachers care, the principal has made significant positive changes and really cares about my child. The parents are involved and the test scores are some of the best in the SW area of Chicago. The school is filled to capacity and they really need more classrooms. I'm really happy with the education my children are getting there.

Excellent school, excellent staff, excellent security, excellent principal. The only school that I would send my child to. I would pay to have my child at this school.

I am now an eighth grader at Byrne school and I transferred from Washington Irving to Byrne in second grade. These six years have been the absolute best. I think this school improves every year and it's a great place to send your children. The teachers are great,there is a science lab,an auditorium/gym room, and even a trophy wall. This school is one of the best schools in the district. I'm glad I attended Michael M. Byrne and I'm sad to leave yet sort of proud that I could be so lucky to attend such a great school. There's even an advanced algebra class for seventh and eighth graders who are excellent in math. The principal makes the school a better and safer place for your kids which makes it an even better choice. This school takes learning to a whole new level.

My daughter transferred to Byrne School from a Catholic school in the fifth grade. After many years of struggling because of a reading comprehension problem the transfer amounted to an immediate improvement in her grades. Different teaching methods were utilized and some subjects included summary videos at the end of chapters which allowed for easier comprehension of the information. Building friendships was easier than expected. The children were open to welcoming new students. This further improved her self esteem. The after school program has been instrumental in keeping her on target each year. My son started Byrne in kindergarten and has had the most caring and inspirational teachers that I have seen. He was able to read books by the end of kindergarten without having attended schools prior to that point. Teachers are tuned into what children are feeling and address each child s needs individually. Best decision we have ever made!
