Hi. You don't mention what grade level you're interested in, but my brother-in-law's family has had 4 kids go through Chicago Public School's magnet program, ending with Whitney Young Middle/High School, and they have been very pleased with the experiences their children have had. I would definitely consider magnet schools if I were you. The application deadline for next year is 12/18/09: http://www.cps.edu/Note/Pages/Application2009.aspx

We are looking for a similar type of school for our 3rd and 7th graders in the same area of Chicago, but have yet to find one. Have looked extensively and very unhappy with results. Since we missed the deadline for public schools, any ideas for private ones?

Prior to attending the magnet school, my in-law's children attended Archdiocese of Chicago elementary schools: http://schools.archchicago.org/ and obviously their academic preparation was very good, in order to transition successfully to the magnet program later.
