Our Lady of Peace provides a strong academic and faith-based education. The children are well-prepared for high school and excel when integrated with children from local schools. My oldest placed into all honors in high school, passed out of Algebra and is currently ranked at the top of her class. I firmly believe that her success, as well as that of my daughter currently attending, is founded by the years that she spent at OLP surrounded by dedicated and talented teachers. Their strong moral values have been woven into their daily experiences at the School. OLP provides students with the tools to succeed in life. It is up to the students and their parents to use them to fulfill the child's potential. There is a community feel at OLP that makes the families truly believe that they are sending their children to the right school. The children treat each other with respect and the upper grades serve as leaders of the School. They strive to be role models for the younger students rather than self-absorbed like some junior high settings. OLP is one of the best decisions that I have made for my children.
Ask yourself why families are leaving the school in mass numbers? Why is the church working with a consultant on its image and to increase enrollment? Why is the education declining and children not prepared for high school? Once this was a great school but has deteriorated in both spirit and academics. OLP problems are mainly with leadership and parents doing things that hurt people. The same parents are in control year after year and the biggest gossipers are on the school board. These decision makers have no experience and are leading us all down a dark path. Don't disagree with them, if you do you are castigated and so are your children. The reputation of this school is poor and everyone who had children there know how hurtful the OLP experience truly is. Many had enough and sent a message by leaving. If OLP is to endure they need to start with treating each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. They need to start thinking before acting on how much children, parents and the parish are affected by their decisions and how much they hurt people with gossip and words Many of OLP's problems can be solved just with acts of kindness and love.
Information regarding public school is incorrect. In our public school there is a cap on 26 kids in each classroom. The children have smart boards, a high tech computer lab and teachers with master degrees. How many teachers at OLP have master degrees?
I feel fortunate that my children attend OLP. My neighbors that attend public school have said that some teachers, aides, special needs teachers, social workers, etc. have been let go which means much larger classes in the public school.
Parent's only complain "here" because they have already complained "there" and nothing happens. It is freedom of speech.
It is sad that a few disgruntled parents feel the need to complain on this site. My children have been well educated in this Catholic school. Their faith and academic progress is excellent. Our Lady of Peace is more than a great school, it is a terrific school! The principal, teachers, and support staff give 110% everyday. They truly care about every child in the school, and they strive for excellence in all areas of education. Don't listen to the few petty remarks made on this website. The positives far outweigh the negatives at OLP. My child would not be in all honors classes in her high school if she hadn't been well prepared at OLP!!
Poor management issues have now affected the education quality for the children. It is sad to see a school with such legacy, begin to decline due the ineptitude of its current stewards. I won't rate this school a 1 because this isn't the worst. But when you have 4 star public schools surrounding this school it is hard for a parent to justify the money spent. In the end it's about education, and when there is no consistency or continuity, nor anyone working towards such a goal it does become unnecessarily chaotic and confusing to everyone.
Academic programs are at best average and many parents have their children enrolled in Kumon type programs to supplement their childs education. Parents run the school and there are serious control issues. Board members serve for years not allowing new ideas by encouraging new members. The principal is not financially or business savy. The parish and school as a whole is pooly run by the pastor, he is in over his head. It is a chaotic, unfriendly and a unhappy place and the result is a decline in enrollment and parents transfering their children to the public school.
OLP is run by the parents, not the principal. The principal completely lacks leadership skills and has absolutely no financial background or understanding of budgets. OLP's website states they begin Algebra in 8th grade, while local public schools begin in 6th grade. Their website also states they have SMART boards, however, last year only one was visible throughout the entire school, and a few were sitting somewhere in a closet, and the one that was visible wasn't even completely hooked up. The children do not receive Catechism on a regular basis, the subject is taught when there is extra time. There are absolutely no extra-curricular activities for the children to engage in other than sports. The parents are clicky and should start their own gossip column. Overall, the school is way behind the times, academically and technologically.
These previous posts must have blinders on. This school is going down the tubes. We started at OLP for it's dedication to the student and education. Now with a second principal and new priest, I worry about the future of OLP. The principal is very nice on the outside. Get to know her and she has no backbone. She is not the voice for our school. Communication at OLP is horrible. Check out our school webpage, that should say enough right there. I'm very disappointed in this school.
