I have mixed emotion regarding Harriet Tubman. Each year, my son has been blessed with wonderful teachers who seem to care about his educational advancement. Although times were real rough in the beginning (4th grade), the principle, as well as the superintendent finally see what I wanted out of this school. I wanted my child to give his best, but at the same time being placed in an environment in order to do his best. I like the teachers, and I probably know the majority of them and I think that with more parental involvement, this could be a great school. The children can be controlled and I have seen it done. But it will take all of us as a village to do this. Unfortunately this is my last year within this district.

I currently have two children that attend Tubman school. I am slightly disappointed in the school's ability to meet the individual needs of both of my children. My son is more capable than the average kindergarten student. He ended his preschool year able to read sight words as well as phonetically sounding out words. I do not feel that this school is offering my son enough individual attention. I have some of the same feelings about my daughters educational experience at Tubman. I don't feel that she able to work at the pace of most of her third grade counterparts. I believe that more can be done to create a more individualized learning program for both children. I have brought these concerns to their teachers and principal and they have yet to fully address my concerns and offer a solution that will encourage my children to continue to grow.

This is my son's first year at Harriet Tubman. He is in the 4th grade. He loves his teacher. I do not fight with him to get ready for school in the mornings. I'm excited about this school year. (9/06)

My son is new to this school. So far, I love his teacher. She encourages growth, and responsibility. She communicates frequently with us.
