We've been very happy with our St. Joe's experience. The academics are appropriately challenging while the teachers provide a supportive learning environment in their classrooms. We receive a lot of communication to let us know how our children are performing. The sense of community is first rate. There's also strong parental support for the school and lots of opportunities to volunteer for outside activities without being presssured. A great Catholic School choice

we've been to three different Catholic grade school with my kids over a long range of years due to my husbands career responsibilities. St. Joseph school here in Downers Grove is BY FAR !! the best. The kids class camaraderie is fantastic. My kids are academically challenged with their homework and i cant say enough about their religious staff and their all school mass. Here is the special thing I find very unique...it's more than 100yrs old and there is a great excitement about the school with the kids AND parents !! Fun at social gathering and various athletic events even with the very young grades...ive never seen anything like this at our prior school. Truly special.

Our children attend St. Joseph School in Downers Grove, Illinois . They enjoy the teachers and classes. My 2nd grader loves math, social studies and playing with his friends as well as being a Crusader. The teachers, staff and all the families involved help make St Joseph a great school.

My children love St. Joe's and as parents we are convinced that we made the right decision in sending them there. This is a caring faith-based environment with excellent teachers/leadership. Our children are learning and meeting state standards in education which will give them an excellent foundation for the future. Additionally, Catholic values are being reinforced in the school setting which is just as important to us.

Our children are thriving under the educational leadership of the St. Joe's faculty. The teachers, techer aides and the entire staff are amazing and truly care about each and every kid that enters the building. Opportunities are many for parents that want to get/stay involved at every age level.

My son started Kindergarten at St Joes last year and both of us love it. St Joseph School has provided my son with a great one-on-one learning environment as well as a sense of community. Stay at home parents are always willing to help out with the working parents and tons of parent involvement with various aspects.

We looked at several schools before choosing St. Joseph School of Downers Grove for our two children. Our oldest is now in high school and getting straight A's in honors-level courses. St. Joe's has been a wonderful experience for our children AND for our family. It's a true community where everyone is welcome. The no-cut sports program has phenomenal participation and there are lots and lots of extracurricular activities, social events and volunteer opportunities. Parents are very involved which makes for a fantastic academic atmosphere. The school enjoys wonderful support of the entire Parish and every aspect of the school [from academics to sports] is instilled with the Catholic tradition of faith and personal responsibility. It's truly a fantastic school. Parents couldn't ask for a better place to send their children.

We can't say enough great things about St.Joes. We came to DG when our oldest was going into 5th (a tough time to be starting new). After a week in school, he said to us 'I feel like I've always gone here'!! The teachers and kids were so welcoming, that all of my kids felt completely at home. We have been in both Catholic & public schools & by far St.Joes is the best experience yet!! Academically challenging and spiritually connected. The leadership is responsive & positive and the teachers care!! Refreshing...

I have two children at St Joseph who continually excel in not only academics, but in things you won't find in public school: Faith, Generosity, Call to Service, Kindness and Respect. The parents are involved in the children's education and as mentioned before you are welcomed there as if you were family. Some folks are hesitant because they figure public school is free, but remember it's your children we're talking about. Aren't they worth the investment? I also looked into how the children performed after St Joseph and the list of honor graduates was hard to believe. We feel very blessed to have our children at St Joseph!

I love this school. Can't wait until my 2 1/2 year old starts school too. I have a 2nd grader there and I have found this school to be an amazing find. The parents are great, the students in my child's class are all wonderful kids and the teachers really care for the kids. I don't have one bad thing to say about this school, and it would be hard to find anyone who does.

My three children are thriving at St. Joes! They are learning all the things that are important to us - academics, faith, community, and service to others. The teachers, staff and families all seem to want the best for all the kids and try to include everyone in their attempts to offer each child wide ranging opportunities. We are lucky to be a part of St. Joes!

My daughter joined the school in 8th grade. The transition was incredibly easy. The families were warm and welcoming as well as the girls. Our 8th grade experience was phenomanal in every way. I didn't think it would be an easy year but instead it was one to remember!

This school is an incredible find. My children have excelled at St. Joseph academically, spiritually, and socially. The teachers are enthusiastic and involved with each student's progress. The sports programs, outdoor education experience, VIP day, and the opportunity to plan and attend mass each Tuesday are just a few of the things which make it special.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
