I am a parent of 4 children that attend Downers Grove Christian School. My oldest is in 8th grade and will be going to Downers Grove North this fall. She tested very high on the Explorer test and will be taking honors classes there. I feel that DGCS has prepared her well for high school. My other children also score very high on the Terra Nova standardized testing and they are in 1st, 3rd, and 6th grade. I feel this school is academically strong and at the same time the school is Christ centered. Each teacher here truly loves and cares for each child. DGCS does report to ISBE . I am sad that one parent keeps putting things that are not true about this school on this website. Our family and children have been very happy here for the past 9 years.

The love and care the students get from the teaching staff at this school is unequalled. Unfortunately, there is a family out there who keeps coming back to leave false and hateful messages about this great school. How sad it is for someone to carry around this much spite. But as a previous writer says, we do forgive them and pray they will find God's peace and let their hate go. This school is a wonderful place for your children. My wife and I had our three kids go through 8th grade and had a wonderful experience and transitioned well into high school. We LOVE this school!!!

Downers Grove Christian School has brought me closer in my relationship with God and has prepared me extremely well for high school. I attended DGCS all the way from pre-school through eighth grade and loved every single year. Each year I have grown in my faith, developed strong relationships, and advanced academically. Last year I learned that every morning the teachers pray for every student by name and that is just one example of how the teachers at DGCS go above and beyond to make the classroom environments enjoyable and dedicated to to the students learning.

Downers Grove Christian School has been a blessing to our family in so many ways. The children are loved and the quality of education more than prepares them for high school and college. The staff invests in so much more than academics, the spiritual aspect goes above and beyond the classroom. No school is perfect , come check it out for yourself. We are excited to see how the Lord will continue to use the ministry of DGCS.

This school is not only unaccredited, but they re not even recognized by ISBE. What s sad is that DGCS boasts that their education is Top Notch yet they won t do the minimum & register with ISBE? There s a reason, and it s that their curriculum is laughable. 6th gr. should be learning Ancient History but instead spend 1 mo. making National Park brochures & weeks drawing imaginary restaurants in other countries. Spanish is offered in 7/8th grade via Rosetta Stone, but most just play on the internet instead. Why? No tests, no HW, no supervision. Many textbooks are over 10 yrs. old. Unnecessary field trips & daily game time in lower grades. Music teacher has no musical education. Teacher s on their phones during class. Jr. High classes chaotic & noisy. I could go on but space is limited. Unfortunately, DGCS is just a glorified day care center. My children are in another school now and it s scary how much catching up they have to do. Save yourself the heartache and money and send your children elsewhere if you want them to actually be educated. Please learn from my mistake and NEVER send your child to an unaccredited school.

My family has been profoundly blessed by the education my 2 children received at Downers Grove Christian School. They have both been there from Kindergarten through 8th grade and both of them were more than adequately prepared for high school. The teachers truly love the students. They are always available to answer questions. We met personally with every teacher every year and never once had any doubts that our children were loved. As far as the education quality goes, it is definitely above par. Not only do the teachers teach what needs to be taught, but they also strive to teach the spirit of the child. That is not something you get in a public school of 30 or more kids per class. Both of our children were involved in sports and band. They were both able to do whatever they desired and built better relationships as a result of being part of something bigger than themselves. You truly cannot go wrong at DGCS. We love the school, teachers, staff and church. Our children will have great memories of school as a result of their time there.

Having graduated I can say that I love this school and how it has helped me with my walk with Christ. It is also a great place to find life-long Christian friends that will help and encourage you with your walk with Christ as well. The teachers are great and encourage you to do your best. It is a great environment for students and a great place for a quality education. It is upsetting how some people post untrue ratings for this amazing school.

All of my children have attended the DGCS preschool program and we have been blessed as a result. The attention and dedication of the staff was remarkable. Their care for my children's education, but more importantly their spiritual development, was top-notch. Couldn't be happier with the team @ DGCS!

I am currently in high school, and I graduated from DGCS. I have found that this school provides a great education, and fully prepared me for high school. I had learned everything anyone from a public school learned, if not more. I really live this school, because it is so Christ-centered, and everyone is loved there. I can not think of one teacher that's not excited to teach about the love of God. As if the students there, the classes may not be as big as public school, but I can almost promise that you will make lifelong friends at this school. One thing I love are the field trips, we don't go them to often, but every time we do they are super fun. One of my favorite trips was were we went Downtown DG and handed out candy canes with the true meaning of Christmas on them. One of my favorite parts of this school, are the weekly chapels, we worship, and learn a great Bible story. Overall, this is an amazing school. And no matter what anybody says, I will always recommend this school :)

This school is a train wreck! In my opinion, it will only be a matter of time before they close their doors. Ever since the former principal of 14 years left in 2012, this school has fallen apart in every way. Not only is the school losing students left and right, the last principal of 2 years didn t even want to stick around and left right before Christmas. Who did they choose to replace him? Their own 4th grade teacher! And watch out because it s a my way or the highway form of leadership there. The school committee is handpicked First Baptist Church members, and led by a man who s more concerned with power than the duty to be objective. As for the education, it s a joke! Don t believe the website when it says top notch education. The teachers are more focused on field trips and being buddies with kids than actually teaching. How does a walk, several times a year, to Starbucks qualify as a nature walk ? Give me a break. Also, they don t have many new families and I wouldn t be surprised if they start combining grades due to low enrollment. This used to be a good school, but unfortunately it s a mess now. Look elsewhere if you want your child to be educated.

We love Downers Grove Christian School. We have been very happy with the quality of the academics and more importantly the true spiritual education our children are receiving. We recently were in the market to purchase a new home and made sure we were close to DGCS! We cannot imagine our children at another school.

When looking at public school alternatives for our children, we considered class size, curriculum, and faith based teaching. DGCS was a perfect fit for all three categories. Class size provides collective and one-on-one teaching opportunities, the curriculum will challenge each student to achieve new levels of preparedness for the next grade or next level such as high school. Faith based teaching combines biblical truth with subject disciplines to prepare our children with the knowledge and character needed for their life. Sending our oldest child to DGCS (K-8th) they were well prepared for public high school testing in at sophomore level classes as a freshman. The transition concern from a small school to a large high school was a non-issue; DGCS prepares students for the next level. Our next child currently attends DGCS. The Accelerated Reader program has turned this non-reader to a voracious reader. Teachers are able to spend time with each child to adapt the best teaching methods that connect with each student. A school with a larger class size may not have the ability to provide this level of student attention. DGCS provides great value for a private school education.

We had to remove our child from this school because of bullying. The gym teacher didn't interact with the kids during gym so the kids pretty much ran the show and treated each other like dirt. They make your kid memorize a bible verse every week but there is very little christian behavior going on here. It's sad. The teachers, minus one, are sub par and certainly don't have the degrees and expertise that the web site will have you believe. Nepotism is rampant. It's very poorly run by a select few who have no clue what they are doing! Don't stop here, keep looking!

Outstanding staff and teachers who have dedicated their careers to teaching. 10 out of 14 teachers have been teaching 9+ years at DGCS. The school offers a loving, caring environment which allows the students to flourish. I had 2 children attend pre-8th grade at DGCS. They both left the school and attended DG High School attending honor classes. It is a safe place where children can learn that God created them special and has a plan for their lives. They offer art, computers, PE, music/band, clubs and sports. I would absolutely recommend this school!

My children have attended this school for many years and for many reasons we have been generally pleased. Overall the teachers have been strong. The teachers have a heart for Christ and are dedicated to teaching for the Lord. Only 1 of the 13 teachers is young. The other 12 teachers have had years of teaching experience.

Downers Grove Christian School is an outstanding school for those seeking a distinctly Christian education with solid Biblical principles. The teachers are well experienced and teach with excellence. I have three children attending the school and strongly believe the level of instruction is superior. They have tremendous opportunities to excel in every area of their development. In addition to the exceptional teachers, DGCS offers superb and challenging academic programs, as well as strong school leadership via the principal. DGCS is a thriving ministry of First Baptist Church of Downers Grove. The outstanding church-school connection is a positive and supportive relationship demonstrating a vibrant faith-in-action example. Overall, I rate this school five stars. I am highly satisfied with the outstanding experience my children have received academically and spiritually.

My children have attended this school for many years and for many reasons we have been generally pleased. Overall the teachers have been strong, although the turnover is higher than desired. The teachers have a heart for Christ and are dedicated to teaching for the Lord. However, they tend to attract very young teachers and often times they are inexperienced or leave quickly to begin families. Overall, the leadership struggles. The school is a ministry of the affiliate Baptist church. Therefore, the principal ultimately reports to the Deacon board and is strongly governed by the church which has, at times, created problems with conflict resolution, communication, and growth for the school itself. Problem resolution with the parents has been increasingly problematic. Although, allowing grace and discernment in decision making is a cornerstone of leading a Christian life, at times this is actually misplaced at this school. Recurrent behavior problems tend to get avoided. Due to the teachers my children have had throughout the years, I believe they received a quality education, however it is a bit uncertain due to frequently changing staff.

I have had three children go through this school. (preschool - 8th grade) They have had a warm environment with academic excellence. All of the children have placed into honors classes in the high school and have done well with their Christian foundation.

We have been overall very pleased with the school. We initially chose DGCS because we felt out son, kind of shy, would benefit from a smaller class size. We were very impressed with the challenging curriculum and pleasantly surprised with the welcoming atmosphere & Christian emphasis that is evident in all areas.

My children have been in DGCS for 4 years. The Principle and teachers are very helpful and friendly, they care about each child, and always listens to parents comments and concerns. The Christian education and character development are great. DGCS offers a high quality education, They offer P.E., Music, Band, and Computer classes. Extracurricular: Soccer, Boys and Girls Basketball, Cheerleading and girl's volleyball. Plus many extra academic opportunities. The Administration and teaching staff are wonderful and they encourage parents to get involved, the level of parents involvement is very high. We are very happy to have our kids at DGCS - DGCS Mom

As you might expect in a small, private Christian school, the extra curricular activities are not as extensive as public schools. But as a former student and mother to a young child, I can tell you that God is glorified by this school and I would love for my child to go there when he is entering school. The teachers all have a heart for Christ and young people. The current principal is a wonderful man of God. Many dedicated parents work hard with the staff to ensure that a quality, Godly education is achieved. If you are a parent concerned with the direction public schools are headed and would like your child to learn about a serious walk with Christ, consider DGCS as an alternative.

All the teachers are very young and they do not stay around. It's hard to be at a school with so many new teachers every year.

Academics are OK. Test scores are high due to some very bright children and small class size. Administration would like you to believe it is their 'teaching', but in reality it is what they started with.good raw material.

Although this school does not have some of the social problems encountered in public schools, the leadership is inadequate. The teachers are not given the guidance needed to do their jobs effectively. There are some teachers who are excellent, but there are always first year teachers, and the problems that brings. Teacher turnover is much higher than a public school and experience is much lower. Problems are not solved to the benefit of the child. Each situation is not looked at individually, the solution to any problem is, school staff is correct. Many children do not flourish in this school's environment.

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
