I am a graduate of Dupo Community High School and I must say that, for the most part, I did not get the required education for my college career... Some teachers are not qualified in their subjects they teach because it was not their primary major... I believe that the only departments that adequately teach students 'anything' would be the English, Social Studies, and Science Departments with teachers that work mainly with Juniors/Seniors.

This school doesn't care about extracurriculars at all. It only cares about the football team, which hasn't won a game in 2 years. It doesn't care at all about academic teams, like Scholar Bowl, nor does it care about Band. This school really upsets me.

I would say that the quality of our academics is average. One thing that we could really use help in is the extracurricular activities deptartment, we are losing more and more all of the time and there is never enough money to support what sports and such that we do have. Our discipline has really improved the past year, everyone is alot more strict which I think is probably best for the school. Over all I think I go to an average school.

I attended Dupo through my freshman year. My sophomore year I transferred to Belleville East High School. Once I began classes there I realized that I was pretty far behind the rest of the population at east. At Dupo I made honor roll virtually every year. I highly doubt that my intelligence lowered thus far over the summer. I have once again brought my grades back to standards, but, it has been very difficult for me and has required lots of extra attention to my education. I am as of now a graduating senior at Belleville East and have recently moved back to the Dupo/Cahokia area.

As a graduate of Dupo High School, I can say that it isn't the best academic environment in the state of Illinois, but it did provide me with the tools necessary to be successful in college. The teachers are very interested in their students' achievement, as are the administrators. Class variety is lacking. I think the reason for this is simply that the school doesn't have the funds to be able to provide its students with the materials required for a more varied class repertoire. As stated in the other reviews, parent involvement is very high at sporting events, and sporting events are very popular social outings for the Dupo school district. But where I think the other reviewers where mistaken is in their accounts of the disregard for music and other arts. Again, the issue is a lack of funds and also a lack of interest from the students.

The quality of basic academics is average. Recent graduates I have known have found they were behind students from other schools once they were in college. Music and the arts have seen drastic cuts over the last 25 years. High School band has only 9 students. There is only 2 art classes. English electives are minimal at best. Course offerings are limited, so much so that Seniors often have to take a study hall, a teachers aide position or an additional PE class to fill their schedules. Parent involvement depends on who you talk to. Athletics rule the school while the majority of students struggle to find a place to belong.

School is slowly getting improved, the Assistant Principle does more for the students in improving their education then the actual principal does, the education standards are rising and encourage you to send your child to dupo.
