Elgin Academy is amazing! The creative environment, the dedication of the teachers and staff, and the overall positive atmosphere of the school -- you simply must come to see for yourself. Students are given every opportunity to blossom and be their best 'self.' I highly recommend Elgin Academy to anyone who wants the very best academic life for their child!

EA has small classes and a terrific learning environment for all students, but the teachers are the jewels in the schools crown. The faculty makes Elgin Academy the outstanding place for an academically challenging college prep education it is.

Love this school! This is our 2nd year there and we couldn't have found more devoted and caring teachers. Everyone including teachers, staff and parents are involved daily. I have never seen anything like it.

A great school that begins in the early childhood years with a solid, well thought out early childhood curriculum and continues up though the grades. Top notch!

Faculty & Staff are great! Class sizes are small! Academically challenging with excellent college-prep courses. Students given every opportunity to have what they need to succeed in life. Family environment with Pre-School thru 12th grade students.

We transferred our son to EA from a highly rated but over crowded public school district and have no regrets. He was much happier to be in a smaller class where he could participate in class discussions and have his questions answered. The teachers and staff are without a question dedicated, caring and very competent. It's a family atmosphere, where parents are welcome to be involved and part of our child's educational experience. How refreshing to go into a conference and listen to a teacher who actually knows our son! This school is a hidden gem.

The Academy has deteriorated in many ways. The lower and middle schools have suffered in the quality of their teachers. Their admission standards are lower than they have ever been, and the academic standards are consequently lower. Poor leadership is evident, and the curriculum has been watered down. The average class size is the same, but one might now wish to ask hard questions about who is in the class, who is teaching it, and what is being taught??

This year, of all years, the tuition for the Academy begs the question: 'is it worth it?' The answer is a definitive yes. The average class size of 15, coupled with the most dedicated teachers you could ask for is just the beginning of being a member of the community that is Elgin Academy. Fine arts such as art and music, as well as physical education and foreign language are a priority at EA, rather than requirement. Starting in preschool students become members of this diverse community which provides interaction between and among kids from age three to eighteen. These things in addition to a comprehensive curriculum truly dedicated to providing opportunities for critical thinking, independence, and worldly respect are what make EA the perfect school for my children.

Elgin Academy no longer deserves its reputation. Their admission standards have suffered, resulting in a lower academic standard in curriculum and student ability. The faculty is not as good as it has been in the past. Their leadership is not very strong, and the school has deteriorated.

Elgin Academy offers small class sizes and curricular flexibility. Our Middle School boy has been at EA for many years and is flourishing. Highly recommend.

My son attends PreK at Elgin Academy and he loves it. The academic program is very enriching and everything they learn seems to be through exploring and hands on experience. Wonderful teachers. Good first experience for young children.

I think this is clearly the best school around. The small class sizes (12-15 students on average) make it possible for teachers to really know the kids. Academic problems are quickly noticed and corrected in such an environment. When my kids are doing homework, I see my younger daughter helping my older daughter's friends -- because she is being taught material at least a year ahead of the public school. Well worth the cost.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
