We have two kid at EA middle school and we are very happy. We will be staying at EA through highschool. We've spent several years at other private schools and very much appreciate the focus on academics while developing well rounded individuals by incorporating projects that build their confidence (which make them comfortable speaking in front of groups. In our 4th year at EA, we've found that the teachers and administrators actually like to be with the kids (we didn't find that to be true at other private schools) and genuinely care about each kid succeeding in classes that seem to not have more than 16 kids or so. The families are not pretentious and school teachers/staff are friendly and inviting.

My son is in K & loves his school. There s been a great improvement in his reading & writing skills. Before reading, he tells his guess what the book is about. After reading, he summarizes the story, identifies/analyzes the characters, describes the setting & tells what the author & illustrator are trying to convey. Also, he's already doing basic multiplication learning French. The school does NOT tolerate bad behavior. When a 1st grader joked & called my son names in front of a teacher, w/in mins, both parents were contacted by the school to report the incident & relay the steps they ve taken to address the issue. My son said the 1st grader was joking & the incident was nothing compared to the behavior of 2 female Pre-K classmates in his FORMER Catholic school. The 2 girls constantly picked on my son & made him really feel bad. The worst thing about that incident was that the mother of 1 of the girls refused to apologize & insisted that IT SHOULD BE IGNORED as the kids will outgrow it. We moved out of that community & can't tolerate parents w/ totally different principles & values. FORTUNATELY, ELGIN ACADEMY ADMINISTRATION, STAFF, FACULTY & PARENTS SHARE THE SAME GOOD VALUES.

Middle school teachers have good intentions but are unqualified. School long ago traded principles for money. This is no longer a college prep school. No uniforms, too casual and no real discipline for bad student behavior. Same or better value at a good suburban public school. Former student, current parent.

We have been at this school for 12 years and it keeps getting better. As a parent it is a wonderful community where you can get involved as much as you want to be. As a student my daughter has had many wonderful teachers over the year. The small classes really provide individual attention and push her to be the best that she can be. She has had so many wonderful opportunities to explore her interests whether they be educational, sports or arts. She is now a strong, independent thinker. I am excited for her high school years.

Parents, the lower school is wonderful and I highly suggest it; however, everything is downhill from there. I recommend sending your son or daughter to a proper social environment. The high school is in shambles
I am always happy to come to work. I cannot imagine doing anything else. Playing and creating alongside the children is enjoyable. The conversations that we share in our play assist their language development and their imaginations! I also enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the respect given to me to create an environment in which children will thrive."

Elgin Academy was a great school for our two kids ((one is now a college grad and working, the other is in graduate school). The teachers are very caring and know how to reach each kid on an individual level. The College Placement program is fantastic. Also, the Academy provides outstanding experiences in sports, fine arts, community service, and environmental education. Facilities are very nice and it is a very safe environment (thanks for providing regular security personnel).

It is truly a family community. As a parent, I am involved as much as I want to be. I can focus on life skills while EA focus' on educating each student. EA is a complete education from pre-K to high. Each child has mentors, examples and opportunities to explore real life situations. The education is phenomnal. the children are prepared for the next level the year before, they incrementally learn all the skills and tools they need to achieve success and happiness.

It's a small school that averages about 15 students to each teacher. The teachers are there because they love what they do and not for the paycheck. Many of them not only teach but volunteer as coaches.

I was provided an interactive education where I was allowed and pushed to examine and develop my thinking, writing and pereptual skills in all academic as well as social areas. In this small, attentive environment I blossomed socially and academically and felt challenged.
