I have 2 kids in this school. This school nothing but nurtures kids to be their best. They have an advanced curriculum, 2 foreign languages and gym right from the 3 yr old program. The teachers are well qualified. Small classroom sizes allow for individualized attention to every kid.

We began Summit Academy in its First Program for Parents and Babies six years ago. We have never been disappointed with our choice to continue. The education for value cannot be matched. Summit educates the whole child, not just a few core areas. Children are exposed to every aspect of technology, physical activity, arts, sciences, language arts, and advanced problem solving at an accelerated pace in a safe environment. They learn like sponges, taking every thing in. If this school is in your budget, it cannot be beaten. A strong parent organization helps to offset costs of the extensive technology programs, as well as keep parents involved in the day to day operaions of the Academy. Small classes and energetic well-qualified teachers further enrich this accelerated curriculum. A strong character building program makes good citizens of tomorrow.

Excellent preschool and elementary program. Teachers are very experienced, well-prepared and caring. Preschool/Elementary includes Spanish, French, Art, Music, and daily P.E. class in addition to accelerated academic curriculum (my 4 year old is learning some double-digit math and beg. reading). Student-teacher ratios are excellent. My elementary child is in a class of 15 with 1 teacher, 1 full-time assistant and 1 assistant who is an education intern from a nearby college. There is a great deal of parent involvement in this school. There are also abundant opportunities for the children to develop their leadership and public performance skills (e.g. school musicals, community involvement, class debates, etc.). 6th - 8th graders took the ACT and scored in the 20's (acceptable at many colleges!). The middle school classes are extremely small and male-dominated which may be a negative. Also, classes seem very structured (i.e. as opposed to Montessori) and there is lots of homework.

Outstanding school, with extraordinary teachers. I have my children here for 7 years now, and they all are well above average in terms of test scores. More importantly, however, they have all developed a passion for learning, reading and school in general, to the extent that they look forward to fall so that they can go back to school. Although there is limited sporting options, I'd say that's a pretty minor knock - they can get then in 9th grade on up and are active participants in our city's leagues for basketball, softball and baseball. Most parents are involved at some level, and all appear to be as committed to their children's educations as I am.

My children have been at Summit Academy since the age of 2. My daughter is currently going into 5th grade and my son is moving into Kindergarten. My children are extremely self confident and very outgoing. I attribute a high percentage of that to the opportunities that they have received at Summit. The small class sizes allows them to get one on one instruction and they experience so many exciting things that they would not be able to in a larger, standard class size. Through Summit, my children have obtained the educational and social foundations needed to succeed anywhere.

Summit Academy is an excellent school. We started when my child was only 2.5. She will be be in 7th grade there next year! We also have 2 other children attending Summit. The children are evaluated and place according to their abilities. They are challenged but have fun doing the work. The cost is a bit mind boggling at times, but when you realize your children only have one chance to learn ~ there is nothing better than Summit. The opportunities given our children are endless. I am so happy we found such a wonderful place to help educate our kids.

My son is in his 3rd year at Summit and in the kindergarten program currently. This school provides accelerated learning at its best. Summit was the last of 5 private schools we visited and immediately our first choice. Learning is fun, the kids think being smart is cool, and the 'character counts' environment instills integrity. Summit is a gem and provides a far superior educational experience over any school in the state.

My children started at Summit Academy at 2 years old. My oldest is now in 2nd grade and there is not a better curriculum in the area. Small class sizes and accelerated learning programs provide for a positive learning environment. I believe Summit Academy provides my children with the most well rounded academic education available in Illinois.

Summit Academy gives my children a place where they can be challenged and learn! They are given 2 foreign languages from the age of 3! They have gym every day. The teachers are fantastic. Parent involvement is encouraged. We never thought we'd go to a private school, but then we found Summit Academy!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
