It's been four years since bringing students in four towns, in seven buildings under one roof housing elem, JH and HS. Although there was lots of turmoil in the beginning, our students are beginning to reap the rewards of everyones efforts. Test scores are up and graduation rate is up also. Although there are many, many extra-curricular options for students, many don't seem to participate. Administration needs to make more effort to get students involved in JH and keep them involved through HS. Sportsmanship really only seems to be an issue during basketball season and it's not the student (players or cheerleaders) but more so the parents and community that are negative. Farmington is a good school and getting better every year.

I will be honest about this new school. There was a lack of involvement with the parents. My children attended schools in smaller towns and had friends that they interacted with a lot. When school began my children were put in classes where they had maybe 1 child from the old school. It put my children in a situation where they didn't know anyone, thus they are still very uncomfortable in classes. The buses are so full in the rural areas that there are 3 people to a seat. My children have compared the school to a prison. The academic programs aren't much different than the old schools. The time spent with the students is less because of more students. Overall, this school wasted money for all.

Farmington Central School District, 265, is a really nice facility. Safety is great, as it has all entrances and exits monitored by school personnel. It is large K-12, but divided ,for the most part into elementary, Jr. High, and High School. Grading scale is tough for all grades. My son(in elementary level) has quizes that are only five questions long; this makes it really easy to fail as each question is then worth 20 points on a 100 point scale. I don't know how they can accurately gauge how well the student has mastered the subject this way. During the multi-school consolidation some of the younger teachers were let go, while some of the tenured teachers were retained despite parental complaints. Aside from some of the teachers the school is really very good. I graduated from 265, and my son probably will as well.

A brand new facility housing grades K-12 will open this year. Hopefully, the new facility will generate new excitement in education in the district. It does seem that the community supports its sports programs more than any other activity, but good programs are available in music and arts, etc. Perhaps a new learning center will excite the parents and community to more actively support programs other than sports!
