Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This is one of the top schools in the state. It was just listed by The Washington Post as one of the top academically challenging school in the nation. This IS a great place to learn and grow.

HF was once a tremendous high school- one of the best in the state- but that was a long, long time ago. I am shocked at how bad the test scores are now (they are well UNDER the state average!!). What is going on? Really shameful. HF has dropped like a rock.

This school was one of the top in the nation at one time, I was proud to get an education here. After going through 4 years of education I was terribly disappointed, half of my teachers did care and control the classroom, the other half couldn't care less. Students talking all the time constantly distracting, just not a good learning environment. Even more interesting is that H-F is known as the drug store among students in the south suburbs. Sure the school has security it does not prevent fights, or drug dealing...

HF is a very good school FOR ITS AREA only ... it is top notch for South Suburban communities. HF is currently on AWS through the state due to failing test scores which does not make the HS as desirable.

I graduated from HF in 98, and though I had a wonderful experience, I didn't realize just how great a school it really is until hearing others highschool stories. I thought it was normal to have a top notch theater program, tons of amenities, cultural diversity, fantastic music program, fabulous teachers, and a super supportive community that cares. I am so glad I did not grow up in a generic, sprawling, all white suburb. Though I do not live here anymore, I have friends that have moved back to raise their families. It truly is a gem.

H-F continues to be ranked among the top schools in THE NATION according to Newsweek and was acknowledged by the National Board as having one of the best AP programs in the Midwest. They will be one of the ONLY public high schools in the south, west, and northwest suburbs to have an International Baccelaureate program. It all starts with a great administration!

Not a very safe school- has a lot of issues and unfortunately, H-F is not the top notch high school it was 25 years ago. Really sad.

HF really offers a lot for its students. It is really a wonderful school. Though it is making way to more african american students, the students are very happy to attend there and is a safe environment. They are great in sports and overall everything! I give it a thumbs up!!

I know that HFHS has more than the average extras offered to enhance my daughters education. I know that the staff cares. I know that my children are prepared for college and confident in their education. HF has it all!

Wonderful students, great teachers. I am very impressed with the academic program at HF. The honors program can match any university; the regular classes are challenging as well. The students should be well prepared to succeed in college.

I really think HF is a great school. The teachers put all their work into teaching the kids good mannerisms and great ways to teach us students. I am a junior at HF and the teachers are really helpful. If you don't get the material in class, stay after school and they will teach you another way how to understand the material. I give the school a lot of credit for staying on top. Students try and do their best. I don't think most parents really truely understand High School nowadays.

HF is a good learning institution that offers a healthy balance of acaedmics, diversity, sports, and faculty. But it also appears that the school and community is having problems dealing with the difference in changing culture. Sadley some misconstrue culture with saftey which is a unfair observation.

I would consider H-F to be more comparable to a small college than a high school. I truly believe that this High School prepares students for a rigorous University. The quality of the educational curriculum and the teachers are above anything I have seen in comparison to many schools in the Chicagoland area. The amount and type of classes that are offered to the students is unbelievable. I feel that my kids will come out of H-F ready to attend a top College and succeed in the future. By the way H-F has a new principal who is doing an outstanding job.

My son graduated from HF this year and I have a daughter who will be a sophomore. We moved to the area especially for HF and its diversity. HF has challenged my children as well as prepare them in the areas of academics and more importantly real life. I find that the school address the safety issues promptly and more important accurately. I would highly recommend HF to any parent that is looking for their child to accept the world as it is and then take it by storm

We were so impressed with HF that we purchased our home in the school;s district. We feel our girls are getting a good education, but we can also sense a deterioration taking place, behavior-wise. The students have become less respectful to the rules and demands of HF. However, we keep very good communication with the school via its outstanding Parent-Connect. The teachers are very prompt an efficient in answering questions and all grades of quizzes, tests, quarter and semester grades are readily available giving parents immediate feedback to any existent problems. This is a huge plus for HF. Our girls are happy also with the sports. We only hope that the behavior of some erratic students will be handled strictly as far as a dismissal policy. It is a shame to ruin such a well-organized and equipped institution for learning. Our girls receive very good grades. The teachers are excellent.

HF was once a great high school, but has really struggled with student security issues, safety on campus, and dropping test scores. I admire the battle the administration is putting up to save HF, but it is no where near the level of suburban high schools in the west north suburbs.

My son is a Freshman at HF. I have been very impressed by how caring the faculty and administrators are. He is in both Honors and Regular classes and is challenged in all. They have a wonderful Music department and many fine after school activities. I would highly recommend HF to anyone.

HF is better than public high schools in the immediate area, but that does not say much. Compared to the top high schools in DuPage County and the North Shore, HF is not even in the same league (it once was). HF has real security issues that only seem to get worse, and for that reason alone, it is seems dangerous. This is tragic, since the school faculty is actually decent and there are many opportunities for academically inclined students. Like Rich Central, HF's best days were many years ago. I would think twice about sending my child there under today's conditions.

HF was once a great school, but has some real issues now that make the campus unsafe; I would be very cautious about sending my children there these days and many opt for Marian Catholic. Many years ago, HF stood with schools like New Trier, Hinsdale, and Wheaton, but that HF is a distant memory unfortunately.

I knew this school was great when I attended in the 70s, but I think it is even better now. I have 2 children at H-F and they have even more opportunities in classes, sports and activities than I did.

I am a HF graduate of 2004. I knew I had learned a lot, but I did not fully understand until I started college and saw just how well prepared I had been especially when compared to those from other high schools. Everything from extra curricular activities to the course work is exceedingly above averge. The teachers are great but I also believe the policy on behavior is too strick in certain situations. I think that has more to do with the uptightness of the executive staff though. Overall HF is probably the greatest school in the country and by me being in the Army I have met alot of people from around this country.

HF is an excellent school. My child is currently attending and his experience has been nothing but good. The curriculum is outstanding compared to surrounding high schools. The test scores itself reflects that the children are learning and being prepared for college. The safety overall I feel is not a threat because the leadership within the school district has zero tolerance when it comes to behavior. I am convinced that my child will be prepared when going to college due to the education he has received from HF.

This school is good but there are some things that are not good with it like for example: the principal is not that into the students and some are the teachers are not concerned about the students.

I graduated from HF in 2004. HF prepared me well for college and I thoroughly enjoyed my high school experience. HF provided a safe, enriching and supportive environment and remains one of the top public high schools in the nation in academics. I am proud to be a HF grad.

H-F is a wonderful school for the brightest students. However, it seems the average level student is largely ignored... Unless your special needs child is severely handicapped, the Special Education Department is utterly deplorable.

Very good school academically, strong accelerated programs. Newer students may get 'lost' in the bigness and pace. Very strong computer and sciences, could use more foreign languages. Arts and humanities are good also.

My daughter is graduating from H-F this year and I feel that she is academically and socially ready for the world ahead. H-F has great teachers, an expansive, challenging curriculum and so many extracurricular activities, clubs and sports that there is truly a place for every child. The school is very racially diverse, providing a microcosm of the world graduates will encounter. The adminstration gets extra points for encouraging all students to excel. AP classes are available to everyone, something not many schools encourage. H-F also boasts an extensive vocational program. I highly recommend H-F to any parent that wants their child to receive an excellent education in a diverse community.

Graduated Class of 2000 - Solid academics for those that want to take advantage of them, felt well prepared for college. Extracurriculars and facilities are amazing, I haven't seen another High School with anything comparable. Teachers all care and have drive, some more than other obviously. Parents keep active, and overall school safety feels fine. Administration leads well, but inside connections corrupt decisions more than they should. Overall HF was a great experience - just a few cheatings by the Admin. left bad aftertaste.

I think Homewood Flossmor High School is great. It has so many more wonderful programs and opportunities available than other schools in the area. It's just too bad that many of the students do not utilize them. My problem is with the gangs and drugs. Don't fool yourself. They are there and it seems they are accepted. I hope there is enough good to keep the good kids on the right track. Are our kids spoiled? Maybe our parents could spend some time with their kids and teach them to appreciate things instead of taking them for granted. The school standards are very high but many of the kids don't have the guidance at home.

What is happening to Homewood-Flossmoor High School? I no longer feel the sense of safety I once did with previous students. Passing from one class to another has become not only difficult, but intimidating as well. As far as AP placement, I believe this high school places children in these classes to keep up the image they are quickly disinheritating. How unfortunate for this once highly respected high school.

School has more than a lot of oportunities. Tons of sports, auto stuff, art, Ap classes etc. However, in general it helps the good students and forgets about the bad ones. So if your not a golden student, it is possible to network to make better opportunities for yourself. You have to initiate everything if you want help from faculty supervisors etc, because the school will focus on their top students on default. Can be very difficult to control the drug infiltration also, even with security guards and cameras.
