I am very disappointed in this school. I find that it reflects the personality of the greater community: narrow minded, provincial, and cliquish. If one could give half stars, I would actually rate it a 2 and 1/2 instead of 3. The school does nothing to challenge gifted students and has almost no after school programs. It is a pity, because a school like this with a relatively low student/teacher ratio could offer a much more progressive education. My children come home each day with folders full of almost nothing but fill-in-the-blank type assignments. I had read an article in Chicago Parent magazine that rated the school as one of the best in the county (McHenry). I am very curious about their methodology. If I recall correctly, parental involvement was heavily weighted but the only evidence of this I have witnessed is parental OVER-involvement in sports!
I love this school because of the relationship between the teachers and the childrean and parents. It is a very close knit family! The teachers and staff are very caring. Beacuse of this the children are receiving a top notch education.
I cannot say enough great things about Algonquin Road School. Great Superintendent, great Principal, great teachers and other support staff! I love everything about this school! We are going to add on to our home and remodel because there is no way we will be moving out of this school district!
The Fox River Grove school district is doing a huge disservice to the working families in this community by not providing any after school programs. Particularly, the middle school level where traditional day care is not suited for this age level. Something should be done to address this since there a quite a few families that have put their children in private school for this very reason. For the amount of money that families are paying for private school tuition, wouldn t it make sense to keep those revenues in-house through an extended school program?
I am very happy with Algonquin Road School! I have a Kindergarten daughter who loves to go to school in her all day program. This is a Best Practices trend and I know that the students at ARS are given every extra advantage, opportunity, experience and edge by simply being at school everyday. Mrs. Randall-Hayes is an amazing teacher! We can't wait for our younger daughter to have her in a few years.
Good luck if your child needs any special attention. Whether it's because they excel and need to be challenged or because they have fallen behind.
I beleive this is an excellent school! The support staff is wonderful and the teachers are doing a terrific job! My son has gone from K-4th grade and had a great experience!
The administration and teachers at this school have bent over backwards to help my son to have a positive experience at ARS. We really appreciate all they have done and his first and second grade experiences have been very successful!
The teachers I have encountered at this school were very unprofessional.
