My daughter is a seventh grader at GMSS and we have been nothing but happy with the school. The administration is caring and the facilities are second to none. We have been to 3 different schools and GMSS was the easiest transition by far. The kids are friendly and embraced my daughter right away. I would recommend this school to anyone moving to the area.
I have attended several programs for the past few years and the student/teached relationship goes beyond the 'normal' day to day scholl functions.
Im a 8th grader at GMSS and I moved here in the begining of the year. I thought that it was going to be all rich and mean people but it turned out to be my favorite school i've ever been to. They teachers are really nice and helpfull and when I ask another student for help there always willing to. GMSS is the best school!
GMSS is an amazing school and I highly reccomend it. The teachers are very wonderful and nice.
A new middle school was built this year in the district which eliminated the overcrowding and safety concerns mention in previous reviews. There is also some new principal leadership due to the additional school. The teachers are well-qualified and very caring towards the students. The school was always one of the best in the area, but now I believe it is even better.
I am an 8th grader at Geneva Middle School. This school, in all honesty, is a great school. I have been to another school in the area, and I think the curriculum is better here, and the teachers make it easier to understand. The administration, however, is not as good as the school. My parents, and other parents have had great difficulty with the adminitstration. They do not communicate well with parents and they are very bias. Overall, the school is great (I mean, for a school, it's not like I want to go on Saturdays or anything). The highschool is great too, and the entire district offers great extracurriculars. The sports teams are great, and there is an activity for everyone. GMS is a great school.
i have graduated from GMS this past year.I'm class of 2009!GMS is a great school.I have gone through this middle school happy and proud. All the kids are SO nice PLUS the teachers. Its so easy making friends at GMS.I moved to Geneva when i was going to 6th grade and i only had 1 best friend. but in a month i had made about 6 or more friends. The teachers are the bomb! They rock and teach so well!In my opinion the school isnt crowded and DOES NOT need a new school. There just need a few ajustments. After school sports and activites are fun and a great way to relax and get your heart pumping.GMS has a inpact on all the students.Make a right choice and be a student of Geneva Middle School! I recently just graduated from GMS class of 2009. I cannot say enough good things about GMS. Great teachers, great students, great enviroment and great experience. i havent relized how much it ment to me until i left and now i miss it more than ever. All the clubs and of course the MUSIC TEACHERS at gms were amazing and were always here for us... great roll-models and Geneva is the way to go. i recomend it to everyone. yes, its crowded, but they're starting to builid it. geneva middle school is amazing and i wouldnt trade the past 3 yeras for anything in the world.
The halls are crowded. The lunches short. Busses run late ( I got home at 4) Classes easy, but some teachers do not even teach, they act more like babysitters than educators. This school was so bad I refused to go back for the graduation ceremony.
GMS is a great middle school with caring teachers and involved parents. I would recommend GMS to anyone moving to the area.
Geneva Middle school is crowded. The administration is not communicating effectively. One leader says one thing; and the next day they are contradicted by another authority figure. Just when we think we have a problem solved, another administrator steps in. I can only speak of our experience. But my child's needs have not come first, despite our attempts to resolve differences and find solutions that meet the needs of both parents and school. If we were living in a poor inter-city neighborhood with inadequate funding, I could understand the difficulties in putting the needs of the children first. But in a wealthy, well funded school district, I cannot understand. The curriculum is mediocre. Although the school speaks about wanting to work with parents to resoolve differences and solve problems, that has not been our experience. Frankly, I feel that the underfunded innercity school I attended did a better job. Sad.
This school, overall, is excellent. There are many fun clubs to join. The teachers are willing to work to help with a students special needs. The school also has a superb and advanced band and choir, which I was part of. It also offers practical courses like tech ed and home ec. It has a very rigorous, sports centered PE program. This can make a learning experience fun.
I just graduated from Geneva Middle School this June, and I feel it is my responsibility to inform potential Geneva residents of this school's quality. Above all else, the experience you will have at GMS is amazing. The teachers and staff are wonderful at what they do. They care about their students and know how to provide challenging curriculums. GMS provides many extra-curricular activites including sports, music, drama, etc. Students are taught to respect others. Of course, as with any school, there are the occasional bullies. But in general, I would say that about 90% of GMS students follow the rules and respect their teachers and peers. Besides the normal curriculum, GMS provides above-average students with many opportunities to challenge themselves at the next level. All in all, I would strongly recommend the Geneva School District to anyone. My experiences at GMS have made me proud to be a Viking!
I have had two children attend. The curriculum, particularly math and science is extremely dated. Compared to other school curriculums I have researched, Geneva is at least 3-5 years behind. Although teachers have good intentions, the overall quality of education is very poor. My children will not be continuing in the Geneva Public School system. It has not met their needs and the administration has been very difficult to work with when recommending change. Why does this school district continue to advertise a strong reputation. Instead the message should be, 'we know we have issues and we are working to improve' followed by real action. Begin with an overall of curriculum which is needed and sadly not supported by the curriculum head.
I found the teachers to be devoted and caring, a very good curriculum, and thought our son got a great education.
If you are looking for a school that emphasizes conformity, obedience and discipline above all else, then this might be the school for you. Average to somewhat above average children do well here, but parents of learning disabled and highly gifted kids often seek private education. There is a lot of bullying and it is not dealt with effectively. There are a lot of frills, such as great field trips and extra-curricular activites, but the main currculum is pretty run-of-the-mill. This school is located in a hugely conservative, right-wing community and this is reflected at the school. Children who participate in choir sing predominantly Christian songs, athough some there is some attempt to make it multicultural by featuring Christian music from other cultures. I am pulling my child out of this school and paying for a private school, because our family does not share these values.
