I enrolled there for about a semester. I personally believe this school should be abolished. After I was sent here, the school system is very unsatisfying. In Cyd Lash, students swear all the time. Teachers aren't very good at helping them making progress. Textbooks are outdated. Students rarely get to leave their classrooms. The "high school" environment is more like in kindergarten all over again. I felt very uncomfortable there. The students were very immature. I just got sent here just b/c of my serious anger problems. There has to be a better way to help reach their potential.
My son is a student at Cyd Lash and I would agree with the previous 2 students comments. I think part of the problem is the way society views 'troubled Kids'. We medicate them if they aren't doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing then strip them from the environment that they are comfortable with because the teachers don't want to deal with any problems. My son was sent to Cyd Lash his sophomore year and will be graduating this year. He has not made any progress in the 3 years he has been there. The academics are very poor (yes the textbooks are archaic), I have been told they are there to deal with behavior and can't teach at the same time. I am glad my son is graduating but he has had no college prep in fact he probably isn't really high school level.
Exactly what the other student said. I was sent there just because I was truant allot and it was even more horrible than he/she said it was. Even though you are in a 'high school' you rarely leave your classrooms, exactly as in grade school. you have lunch in your room along with most other classes and if you don't like anyone in your room it makes it just that much worse. I was put in a classroom with other students that were much younger than me and were very immature. I felt like I was in kindergarten all over again. I talked with the dean and other teachers about switching back to my old class and they insisted that I belonged their because I was easy going. They never even bother to at least talk to me about it. They could care less about what students want.
I am a graduate of cyd lash academy. Outdated textbooks for one of the negatives. No cafeteria, and only vending machines with junk food, making healthy eating hard. Some of the teachers yell at kids for asking questions about material, and say that 'Asking questions wont fly in college' Well as a college student, I can say that teachers in college dont mind asking questions. Also at cyd lash, the lesson plan is toned down, making it so that those who do want to learn and go to college, have to take Prerequisite classes in college, which offer no college credit. Finally, they send some people to cyd lash who have behavior problems, and others who only have minor problems like trueincy. How is changing schools going to stop kids from skipping? Giving a man a fork isnt going to make him eat what he still doesnt like.
