I really love this school the teachers show pride in their work, the administration office is very professional and caring. In spite of the previous comment a parent wrote about the school 'school going down hill fast'; I woulf suggest you come see the scholars setting and atmosphere youtself before taking heed to that post. As a parent I'm happy to see the diversity that has come to Woodland Schools because this better prepare them for high school and beyond. My children will stay in Woodland Schools until they go off to college.

Woodland Middle School is an excellent school that continues to value student education, maintain great extra curricula activities, and support a learning environment that's conducive with safety and respects diversity. Along with the other schools in Woodland School District, Woodland Middle School Staff continue to educate students to become lifelong learners.

Unfortunately, this school and district as a whole is going downhill fast. We, as parents, have seen a significant change even from just 4 years ago. The main area of concern are the students and the environment. My daughter reports to us about fighting happening more frequently. There are certain groups of kids that seem to cause more of a disruption than others and this group is growing. The test scores are also falling, check out the breakdown of test scores, due to in large part certain groups that treat school as a place that they have to 'hang out' at rather than a place to learn and prepare for the future. The district and schools are just way too big to focus on the quality of education that students deserve.

I used to be a student of WMS, and I switched schools because I really didn't like it there. It wasn't really all that great. It doesn't prepare you for high school like prairie crossing does, and the grading system is really weird.

I really love this school, i just moved to texas and now have to attend shackleford. This is a really great school and all the teachers are very good. I really loved my ALA teacher Mrs. Shinners. She helped me so much. Most of the classes are a good challenge but manageable. I found that the amount of homework depends on the teacher. I am very disappointed that i had to leave this school. -catie h-

I am not a parent, but an 8th grader attending WMS. I gotta say that I love my school. With 2400 kids, it is a big school, but the teachers work in teams, and they are great. All the teachers that I had were awesome. They always inspired me to do the best that I can and be the best person that I can be. The quality of academic programs might not be the best in the area, compared to Libertyville or Buffalo Grove, but it is still good and it is improving every year. We have an excellent music program. There are 4 ability based bands and 3 choirs. I am in the top band and choir and it is truly a valuable experience. The school offers so many extracurricular activities, and anyone can get involved if they wanted to. Parents are usually very active. This is a great school!

When my child started Woodland 3 years ago I was nervous, Middle Schoolers are difficult and this is an enormous school. I liked the early schools, but hadn't heard much about Middle School. Now my child is about to graduate I have to say I've been very happy here. The advanced classes are excellent particularly the Language Arts program. We have had only a few teachers that were less than effective but the core classe teachers have been great. They work in teams and the teams are well balanced. Some teachers are outstanding in finding new and creative ways to inspire kids. In particular Mrs. Shinners/Language Arts, Mr. Haines/Social Studies, and Mr. Noll/Math deserve recognition for keeping interesting. It's a big school so drugs, and teen sexuality have been an issue for a small %, but it is safe a beautiful school. Communication about school activities is one are for improvement.
