This school has some FANTASTIC teachers -- the new principal seems to be making some great moves. Unfortunately, some of the support staff, i.e. the social worker is completely ineffective in his position and has had it way way too long and asst principal needs reminding that the school could be better. The ESL program needs major help and has hurt this school, possibly beyond repair in it's standings. The parents support really help fill in a lot of the gaps though the PTA is very "cliquish"
The strength of TJ is great teachers and fantastic, caring, involved families! For these reasons the school has had a great reputation but in recent years it has dropped substantially. There are probably several reasons including district budget cuts but the two biggest contributors include principals who stay two years or less, and an ESL program that is not designed to succeed (thus making it attractive for principals to move on). However area families do a good job in spite of the circumstances.
This school is fantastic -- from the principal to the teachers and support staff -- My son has some minor special needs and they are more on top of this than I am-- its amazing to see them work with him and put programs in place that make his day better
