Gavin is an EXCELLENT school. My son has learned so much in 1st grade that I made sure when we moved , that we stayed in Gavin district. The teachers pay attention to the needs of each child. I knew my son would need speech class, but I didnt mention it to them because I wanted to see if they noticed on their own, and they not only noticed, but set up speech for him and said they want to do all they can for him. I was very impressed. The communication with the teacher is wonderful. The school staff is so friendly and caring. I would highly recommend Gavin to everyone!

I have a special needs child and I feel the school does an excellent job! The teachers and staff are wonderful and they do a great job at helping the kids learn in different ways. They give discipline when needed and positive feedback too! Many teachers have been there for 20-25 years. Remember it takes good communication with the teachers to help your child succeed, you can't put the blame on teachers. I highly recommend this school.

I went here and didn't like it at all. The classrooms were overcrowded and I would get in trouble for reading ahead in class... I wouldn't rate this low based solely on that. However 12 years later when my sister recently went here she had a lot going on and the school social workers took forever on addressing her concerns and gave her no support and then she was talking in class one day (which I know she should not have been doing) but the teachers punishment was to slap her on the mouth. She is homeschooled now. If your kid doesnt have to go here don't send them.

To the parent who feels this school does not offer anything you could not be more wrong. This school has after school activities in sports, homework club, band, choir, art, plus after school club. Surrounding schools are not offering this. It's all in what you get invovled in. Teacher strive to get your child the help they need. Gavin has come a long way and offers many opportunities for the kids to explore themselves. Check it out more, get involved. Great school and awesome teachers.

I think there are better schools around the area and if you are buying a home i would look in another school district. they do have good teachers but dont really offer anything else to the kids.

This school has come a long way since my kids have been there. Granted they have had their problems, however what school around us doesn't at this time. I think the school leadership is heading in the right direction. I am excited to see what new opportunities leadership brings to our district. All the teacher's I have had experience with are great and go above and beyond for their students. Communication is very important in all aspects and could use some work. Overall in the 6 years I am happy to be part of this school district.

If you have an option pick another school. My expierence has been horrible. I had a real problem with some of their, unorthodox methods. Not to mention the district is on a financial watch list. And the principal and superintendant have both resigned. This info I got from the Daily Herald. Lee Fillas writes all the articles on this school please check them out. The school report card showed they as a district spent 600 dollars more per year per student than our old school. This school was unable to have some of the yearly events due to lack of a budget. Spend 15 grand more and get in the Lake Villa district so much better so much. My ten year old wants me to put him in private school. Call the Illinois State Board of education to get info on the complaints filed this year mine should be there.

Hi My name is Allyson Cochran. I went to this school for the grades 1-4 and I thought it was the best school ever but I think they should take it down and start over but make it the same. P.S I am in the 7th grade now. This rateing is what I think now. 2005 I live in VA
