My child is in "kindergarten" at Gavin and was "stuck" back in the early childhood (preschool) program for his whole kindergarten year. At his IEP going from preschool to kindergarten, the kindergarten teacher who attended told me to my face that she thought my child would hold back the rest of her class from learning if my child was in her class. Love the OT they have there that works with my child though. We are hoping to move out of the district soon. Maybe my child will have half a chance to catch up with his peers in another district!
gavin is a great school. i went there from 6th grade to eighth grade and the memories are irreplacable. its a small school, everyone knows everyone and its just like one big family. the teachers are great and everything is just fun. gavin doesnt have much money but it doesnt stop anything. they teach us the best they can and everyone that goes there or has loves it.
I went to Gavin South for the past 4 years, and now as a highschool student I realized we could have had a better school along the lines of behavioral issues though it was a great school in terms of education and friendliness. It was as if we were one gigantic family. The teachers are amazing. They are understanding and fun. They do their jobs well. They kids got out of control a lot but there was always the school counsiler there to help. Over all, Gavin is one of the best schools around. Go Gavin!
Gavin south jr High is the best school I have ever gone to. The teachers are awsome and the closeness of all the students is the best. Of coarse theres bad things... Like any other school does, but the students at gavin seem to over come that and work together. I love this school and if your thinking to put you child in this school dont hesitate. They will love this school as much ad I Have.
I love this school! And i hear my daughter talking to her friends on the phone saying she can't wait till school starts. So she can see all her friends. And saying what her teachers are gonna be like. And i aprove of these teachers and people that are going to this school the school is fun. Not to rich though but everyone gets along and still learns. And you get rewards for doing good things that make the students wanna do good things! So if your looking for a good school here is a great school! where everyone gets along and the teacher communicate with the parents and the children have a great time!It truely is a great school!
I personally love this school. Most if not all of my precious memories lie within those walls. Gavin South may be poor economically but it is not poor in fun. We have fun but still learn. How many schools can say that? Well I am now an 8th grader and this year will be my last in Gavin South! ever since the first day I walked in that building I felt that was where I belonged. I am not the only one who felt that way....many of my friends felt that way.Our school may not have alot of priveleges as other rich school do but we all have one privilege many other schools don't. We have the privilege of knowing everybody and getting along. Our school may have arguments but we all have one thing in common and that is WE LOVE GAVIN SOUTH!
The quality of the academic programs are impressive, I am very impressed with the high level of parent - teacher communication.I have been very happy with all the Teaching staff through out my childs academic career. However I am very disappointed about the current statis of the district. Next school year there will be no art, music, or gym classes! I feel that these classes are just as important as reading, or math. As a parent the involvement was more evident in the early years (Kinder thru about fourth grade) I feel that there is very little parent involvement in the junior high school. We moved into this district when my daughter was at the school age, because of the outstanding programs, I even attended the Gavin Schools as a child.
I moved to this area 15 years ago because of the schools. They have helped all my children ( with speech and reading w/ gavin central ) But the school's are starting to get to full. There isn't enough indivisual attention like there used to be. We need bigger schools and more teachers,With all the new homes going in.
My child goes to Gavin and she loves it. She enjoys the classes and teachers. Though this school may not be the biggest or the richest my child loves it because of the closeness of all the students. In this school you are not judged upon what you wear but upon your personality. My child looks forward to school because she gets to learn at her own rate and at the same time be with her friends! Out of 10 I give this school an 8/10. I hope you choose this school because it is a wonderful school!
